US NAVY. 69-78. Fast attack Subs. I sometimes wonder where all the Vietnam era haters went. Many thousands then, and not one will admit to it today. And UNCLEBILLY, I too had some great times in Boats. 4 med runs, 2 N Atlantic, one west pac, and avpartial UNITAS around So America. Probably why marriage didnt last??

USN 1957-1961. AT2(E5). Got around 2,000 hours in one of the A/C pictured in my Avatar. Pretty sure bad hearing is due to that service. Would do it again. We did have service numbers instead of SS numbers. Navy's was XXX-XX-XX format. If ST. Peter asks I am sure I will be able to rattle it off!
Thanks to all that served!
Good luck, good health and safe travels!

The Navy was a million dollar experience I wouldn't pay a penny to re-live.

US Navy mine was B81 XX XX then became SS#. Served from 66-72. Two years in Kodiak Alaska, then to USS Fortify MSO 446 for a little cruise from Long Beach Ca to Vietnam. Only took five weeks to cross the pacific.
All the protesters are now in government office protcting our veteran's benefits.

I always thought it was someone who served on active duty. it did not have to be in a war.
When I joined in 1957 the Army had 2 or perhaps 3 SN.

1 If you joined AR OOO-00-000
2 Drafted US 000-00-000
3 Joined the Guard NG 000-00-000

My 17 years in the CANG would not have made me Vet but my 3 years active did. Unless I was activated while I was in the NG.

JUST TRYING TO GET MY HEAD STRAIGHT.

A veteran is anyone who signed the blank check pledging his life for his country. I think you more than qualify.

USMC 61-66 Best duty station Okinawa Mar 62-Apr 63 in 9th Motors. Then to Barstow until discharge. Still know ser# and my M-1 serial number. 16 year break. Utah Guard 82-92, finally got smart and went for the good food in 405th CLSS Air Force Reserve, then over to AF IMA program until forced retirement at age 60. Last three years were active duty, first two was all expense paid trip to Dover AFB as Air Clearance Authority a week after the Towers were hit, last year at Hill AFB. I would go back in a heart beat. I look back and realize that I can't remember a bad day. When I snowbird in Yuma I'll wear my "Once A Marine Always A Marine" cap and always get a funny look at the Marine Air Station gate when I show my AF Retired ID.

I really appreciate the way our fellow service men and women are treated today by the public. I salute each and everyone of you and for my fellow Marines, Semper Fi my brothers.

One more note, a few posts back someone made mention of their mother who didn't serve but was there for husband who did, I also salute and respect the moms, dads and spouses of those who signed that blank check. These folks need to be honored with their own special day, God Bless each of you and thank you for your support.
