As stated in some of the posts, Facebook has a purpose for some. I personally do not like it and several months ago I deleted my account. It takes 30 days for the account to disappear. Then about 6 months later I re-joined and this time I turned everything I could possible turn off in my profile to off. So the only two friends I have are my wife and my military son. I only use it to view information on their "wall" when they notify me that something is there. What is amazing is that when I log into my page I have over 500 people that want to be my friend, and about 450 of them I don't know at all. Any notifications that I do receive are never answered. I told all my relatives several months ago that I may get on Facebook once every 6 months or more so if they want to communicate with me, send me an email, and if they want to keep up with me, go to my web site.
Facebook is a social engineering nightmare. It is a means where people who are out to use illegal means to acquire things can do so through social engineering.
There are specific pages on Facebook that have relevant information to specific needs, one just needs to search for them
IRV2 also has pages of information for specific needs. As pointed out, information can be filtered and the best solution to a problem can usually be obtained.
However, IRV2 is also a means for social engineering. It is an open source forum and as such, all those Facebook types that are gathering information for illegal gains can gather information here. Your travels, your time away from home, and other information that from time to time we slip up and give. It would be nice if to read these threads one would have to be a member. Ah! but then, anyone can become a member.
Yes, IRV2 is a great place to gather pertinent information for your specific RV but just remember it is an open source of information that can be read by ANYONE.
So, there may be differences between the two, but there are certainly similarities also.
