SLO's gas prices are third highest in California | Local Business | SanLuisObispo.com
So the news paper says that where I live we now have the 3rd highest price gas in the state, average price is $4.11 a gallon for gas. At least the MH is full for when we get out of here.
According to the article, San Luis Obispo County holds the record for the highest average price per gallon in the state @ $4.75 on Oct. 9th 2012.

Gas prices
I believe the highest gas prices in the US are lower than the lowest gas prices in Canada, and also lower than in Europe.

Yeah- but most of those "more expensive" places don't produce any oil of their own, unlike we North Americans...
Compare our prices to those in other oil-producing countries:
( These are some numbers from 2006- they've probably changed some, but not in the favor of us consumers!)
Quote:
Saudi Arabia....... Riyadh......$0.91
Kuwait....... Kuwait City........$0.78
Egypt.........Cairo.........$0.65
Nigeria......Lagos.........$0.38
Venezuela.....Caracas...$0.12

Are you sure you don't want to re/think this statement. Last time I looked Canada was in the top 10 of oil producing countries and both Norway & the UK (both European counties) were in the top 20!

Last time I looked, Canada was in North America, making Canadians "North Americans"...
And I did say "most of those places", so- I guess I won't rethink/restate the above...
But thanks for asking!

Francesca.....no big deal, but it just seemed to me that you were responding to the above statement....so there did seem to be something of a disconnect.

Gas Companies have a slogan that says to serve the people at the highest prices possible and keep raising the prices until they quit coming around. I can hardly wait until gas is 7.00 later this year.

Are you convinced it's the evil gas companies? Don't think the aim is for $7----
Not everyone is opposed to higher fuel prices. According to the Energy Secretary Chu in 2008 and restated again in 2011. “Somehow, we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”
Bringing our prices in line with Europe's $10 per gallon would encourage the purchase of more fuel efficient vehicles and decrease overall demand for fossil fuels, and decrease carbon emissions.

And the WA state legislature is considering adding a 10¢ a gallon to the already high state tax to pay for road construction/improvements. Just what we need to stop the economy from growing!

Since 1-29-13, my area has gone from $3.09.9 to $3.59.9. 50 cents a gallon in about 3 weeks. I have not heard any of the usual excuses. The oil companies need to come up with new lies....or maybe they have run out and just decided to [moderator edit] the public.

Locally, $3.65 to $3.85 for regular. Diesel is $4.03.-- Last Month regular was $3.33
Pensacola is adding 4cents/gallon to fund a transit system that no one uses....Can't make ends meet when each bus only has 3-4 passengers at any time. (Takes in $900,000 in fares and costs $4.5 million to operate)

Gosh- not this old turkey again!
Chu used those words before he was energy Secretary, and conspiracy theorists have been quoting it ever since as Proof of The Dastardly Plot by The White House to destroy our way of life.
But the "factoid" that he actually said it AGAIN in 2011 is a whole new wrinkle...funny the writer of this 2012 article on the subject hadn't heard about that, since the WHOLE WORLD has heard about the first boner!

The oil companies sell to who will pay the highest. It's simply the free market system at work. It's a global economy now, China likes gas now too!
Sooner or later, it's going to get a lot worse, we (the human race) have an increasing demand for a waning resource.
Do I like it? Nope! Is there anything I can do about it? Sure is! I can either pay it, or set at home.
In the end, complaining only puts me in a bad mood, and has no effect whatsoever on the price of a gallon of regular unleaded.
