A dream part time job after retirement?.........To be in charge of a un-limited bank account for traveling the world and making records of it all my travels....to pass on to others

Same as posted previously. When I announced my intention to retire my company offered me a 2 day a week position. Works well since DW will be working for 3 more yrs..

After I retired from the Air Force, (31 yrs) I started my own engineering firm. It was successful and I took on additional staff and some partners. When I sold my controlling interest in the firm, I wanted to just do nothing except what I wanted to do, but my previous partners kept calling me to see if I could take on special projects. Well, those "special projects" kept coming and most often the client set tight deadlines for the engineering report, study, requirement document or evaluation etc so it was intense satisfying work until that job was complete. Money was reasonably good @ top engineering rates per hr plus expenses with virtually no overhead for me and I did that for about 3 years until I had to say, no more guys, I was more or less working for the taxman for the most part anyway and the projects interfered with my personal travel plans. Many days I billed 10-14 hrs, especially when travel was involved. I worked constantly while on aircraft or in lounges. Took my RV on some trips, but most were to overseas locations so it involved extensive air travel.

Some people say they do part time work to avoid bordom. All I can say to this, I have NEVER been bored and sometimes I just like doing nothing, but since I am a prolific reader and constant tinkerer, golfer and RVer, I seldom find time to just do NOTHING.

While part time is often a good transition to full retirement, my "Part Time" work turned out to be more or less Full time until I really said, sorry, no more guys, you are on your own, by this time I was 70 so it was time to quit for real and that was 7.5 years ago.

Each indivual's circumstance is different, I really did not need the money but cutting the work ties was not natural for me. I enjoyed the challenges work presented however I have substituted work imposed challenges to my totally retired lifestyle and now wonder how I ever had time to "work"

I had my dream part time job and it was not really much different that what I did before I retired.

Minimum wage employee with the Maine Lobster Council as an experienced taste tester. Three days a week for a hour and a half each day should about do it.

We enjoy working with people since that is what we have done and still do. DW is a Customer Care Manager in a Design Gallery.
One of my current jobs is as a Motor Coach Driver for a National Charter company. Just returned from trip yesterday, not so much fun driving group in Winter Storm, icy, slushy roads, reduced visibilty.

But we both really enjoy meeting people and so as we venture into our FT plans of 2014, Topping our list would be those in which we can enjoy both, the RV lifestyle, travel and meet people.

Campground hosts
Retail sales in tourist areas, RV shows,
PT Snowbird work, Epcot, Disney, Cruise lines, Drive Motorcoaches,
Explore various jobs like Oil field Gate guards, Amazon seasonal job,
Just to say been there, done that and see how we like it.

I guess that is one of the beauties of being semi-retired and FT RVing, you can pick and choose what you do, when you do it, and how long you want to do it. Am I right or wrong?

DH & I worked 2 summers for a tour company out of Juneau, Alaska. Tour operators look for employees that include drivers, dock greeters, logistics manager, boat captains, and so much more. Other towns in Alaska also look for seasonal employees. So, if you ever wanted to take your RV north to the 49th state, you can be like we were & "work the dream"

Don't wanna burst your bubble, I was a forest ranger for several years. Believe me, you have to deal with people all the time. Most folks are okay, but there are a lot of poachers, timber thieves and other numbskulls out in the woods.

After a great career building roads and bridges for 34 years I stumbled into a part time job as a consulting project specialist for the federal government during times of major national disasters. I have been assigned to work disasters in North Dakota, Kansas, Mississippi, Alabama, New Jersey, Florida, Missouri, Colorado and Vermont. I love the job in that I get to meet some very interesting people, get paid well, and get to travel and work 30 to 90 days a year. Down side is this part time job can, at certain times, become more than full time working 70 hours per week for a year or longer after really big disasters like Hurricane Katrina.

I say stumbled into the job because one day at a motorhome rally there was a identical motorhome to ours parked nearby. I got to talking with the owner and when he found out I was retired he asked if I was interested in a part time job. Turned out he was a partner in a consulting firm and the next thing I knew I was working once again. I never looked for it, I didn't even want to do it, but I'm glad I took the job now.

I now work a job I consider 1/2 retirement. A few months ago I quit my Maintenance mechanic job. and took a "Full time" school bus driving job. I work [630AM-9AM] then [2PM-4PM] and get the usual Health Insurance and other benefits. The pay isn't that great but I get a year round check Lots of time off. The union contract shows it as a 1520 hrs per year. Driving the bus is VERY easy, getting the students stay in their seats and not throw pencils is whole different matter. Some are angels and some are possessed demons.
I'm trying to find some part time work both locally and in areas out west where I like to vacation.
I got called by Lowes last week, they said they want to hire me but are just trying to find a opening for me. either assembler, delivery driver, or floor sales.

I've had some pretty cool jobs in my past! I've worked on the Marlboro Ranch driving H1 Hummers off road scaring the guests! Proffessional Hot Dog Vender. Building off road buggies with LS 6 motors and tube chassis. Over 5 million miles in a big rig cross country. But my favorite dream job was off road driving instructor teaching the military! We did this in the field as a intense training program for 7 - 8 days. We literally taught them what the military was not allowed to. I would do this again for no pay! The feeling of giving knowledge that might save a life does not have a price! We trained in wet, cold, snow, heat with no roof! I loved every da% ß minute of it!
