Are they HouseBoats???? Or Houses on Boats????
We were camping near Presque Isle State Park near Erie, PA a couple weeks ago and drove through the park and saw these unique floating cottages on Horseshoe Pond.
I've been told, the houseboats have been rebuilt, but were there before the land became a state park and are grandfathered in under one condition - they can never leave the bay, if they do they are not permitted back in.

I suppose they run on a generator and use holding tanks for waste and fresh water.

That's pretty cool -- do they have to haul them out in the winter ?

Those are pretty cool. I am betting mosquito season is not any fun there.

Joe K; I've seen those there for as long as I can remember....They've had some update work done on them....They look good now. I grew up in New Wilmington, Pa. We used to waterski, swim, fish in the bay since I was a kid....

We call them "House Boats" down here.
There are "Houseboats" like that (Some bigger, some smaller and some in not near as good of shape) scattered all through the swamps down here.

I do agree they are pretty cool!!
Richard asked about electric supply along with water and sewage and I'm curious about that as well.
I noticed about 20 individual electric meters on a service panel near the bay, so I'm assuming the meters feed underground/underwater cables that power the houseboats, but I'm curious about the water and sewage.
How do they get water and get rid of the waste in the swamps.....or maybe I don't want to know

It could be they are just used for weekends.
Porta potty and bottled water... Just jump in the lake for a bath. Or they could use the shower and bathroom facilities at the beaches or in the park.....If you had one of "those" moments you would be hard-pressed to get there in time though.

May be that's the Scum off a Looseanna swamp. Refered to in the Song Wolfcreek Pass...that cleared off that top row of cluckers...

Hi: up here in east tn. things like these are called "boat houses". houseboats are a propelled
vessel. most have holding tanks and are pumped out by a pumpout boat that makes regular visit or are on call when needed. really neat way to enjoy time off.
this is way i have a cl A more places to roam.
safe journeys.

now that is very interesting, would be fun to
check out something like that. A website maybe?
I'd be interested too in the hook up info. Electric or generator, battery, etc. I'd have to
agree about the mosquito question, and just WHAT do they do in the winter?

Hi: in east tn. all the TVA lakes are drawn down to winter low levels and some sit on the lake bottom. our lakes don't freeze in winter time. house boats- boat houses are winterized just as we do the rv's. it gets into the 20's rarely,so
if you had heat and a way to get out to the "cabin on the lake" sure would be fun. i spent a week-end on a 42' house
boat and it snowed 6" that night. a large window in the rear bedroom plus a propane stove made for a very plesant night.
best...joe
