Normanly I do things myself; A/C air is a little different, you need some special equipment to work on A/C.
I have never took my equipment in for repair that they didn"t mess up something else. When I got it back the last time (a week ago) they had broke a connecter that goes to the cold start relay. I was lucky I had one that fit; I replaced that.

Went over to the garage today at noon; truck still tore apart; they now tell me that the switch that turns the compressor on is faulty; they ordered a new one from Toyota, say it will be in Wed. They did say they wern"t going to charge me for the switch. wopie. wopie. it wasn"t broke when i took it in. they gave me the same old song and dance. (it"s an old truck); yeh I know.
I hope its done Wed. I"m heading for North Carolina on Sat. and I am pulling my truck.

Problem with trying to do a charge back through your CC company is that if the merchant disputes it and provides the billing to back it up they keep the money. And, yes, we used to have a business and took CC. Had a customer try that on us, we kept the $450 but had to pay a $25 "investigation fee".
The customer is NOT always right!!

The customer is NOT always right!!
In this case the A/C was not fixed by the first garage; second garage (Midas) gave me statement showing that the A/C was not working when I brought it to them.
Compressor NG and system full of crud.

I have all the recepts and records from both garages;; plus a recept for the "new" compressor I ordered myself. I think I"ve covered all the bases.
I have to give Midas credit; they are making an extra effort to get my A/C working as it should; And so far after the first charge they gave me, I have received no bills for the extra work they have done. But it is frustrating.

I"ve reread your post" sounds to me you think I"m trying to screw the first shop that did the work; after four attempts at my A/C, and charging me again and again for the same thing; do you think I should just keep going back? Sorry but usually three strikes and your out; I gave these guys four tries.

Heres the latest--- picked up truck at 4 oclock; drove home, guess what folks? "NO COLD AIR"; 5 oclock, back to Midas; they checked and said that the thermister on the evaporator is bad; will order new thermister and install it tomorrow;

"My" take on this, they have shorted the wires that go to the thermister thats mounted in the evaperator (I"ve read the book and here is what it says) If you short the wire that goes to the thermister the evaporator will freeze, well mine barely gets cool.
I hope I'm wrong, but I have bad feelings about this.
They assured me that when they fixed the leak in the systen they vacumed and refilled it. I"m not so sure. The compressor keeps cycleing off and on like it's low on gas.. also if they got mosture in the system it won't work to good. dang, dang, dang.
I hate going to Toyota; the last time I went there they tried to sell me a mas air; when I checked and found out that all I needed was a fuel pump; nothing wrong with the mass air (they wanted $450.00. for a mas air). Is there no one that can "REALLY" fix an A/C. ----- Parts changers; thats what they are.
This is #4 for Midas, at least they arn't keep charging me like the other garage did.

Your original question was "what would you do" My solution at this point might include severe physical harm, hey but that's just me
