No letter...just a hand shake agreement. I retired on Oct 23rd...with a full retention and severance package. Returned to work the following Monday as a consultant and negotiated a nice pay increase. Pension checks should start rolling in next month. Not sure how long I will continue to consult...either the husband or I will need to continue to work until Medicare kicks in. But in the interim...double dipping is great!

The best part is...I work remotely so I can work from anywhere!

A friend of mine who is a very smart man told me when asked about retirement, "Gordie when you get past the need for professional recognition you can truly enjoy retirement'.

I have had my own business for 31 years.
So I would write myself a letter saying:

I think i did a good job all these years. Ive made every mistake possible, and somehow learned from almost all of them. Now it is time for me to travel, see what's next, never being completely at ease with wherever I am.
I must find out what's over the rainbow, but please keep a position open for me.
I really like this job.

I left on a sour note. I made more money than my so called boss did so it wasn't even a handshake, good luck, nothing after 30 years of government service

If I had it to do over again, I'd send a CD of Johnny Paycheck. "Take this job and shove it"

One month ago today was the first full day of retirement. Haven't looked back. No regrets!

I worked in IT at MANY different banks because, for a long time, if you DIDN'T change jobs every few years, they wondered what was wrong with you (and 20% raises every few years was nice )
So I got into the habit of giving a 30 day notice.

In most banks, their policies would require them to escort you out the door at first notice, so even though I could go to the new job within a week or two, I usually had 30 days pay in my pocket!

With the current job, I can work from home and the wife doesn't want to retire, (too young), so I still work, for now....awaiting the next big 'cutback' to get a severance package, etc... but they keep letting others go :(
If you really are sad and think nobody cares, just try missing a few payments ! '11 Monaco Diplomat 43DFT RR10R pushed by a Demco Excali-Bar II hitch which is pushed by a '14 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport.

Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
My woman done left and took all the reasons
I was working for
You better not try to stand in my way
'Cause I'm walkin' out the door
Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more
