I was recently in line behind one of the last people on the planet that still uses a check to pay for groceries, in this case. Waited until given the amount owed to hunt for the checkbook in her purse, then had to hunt down a pen, then fill out all the spaces on the check, then flipping to the back of the check book to COMPLETELY fill out the register - all at a snails pace and all with an ever growing line behind her.

One that really irritates me is that some drivers insist on hugging the center line, especially when going around sharp curves! I try to hug the outside line around curves, because I know there's probably gonna be some idiot hugging the center!
I have too many to list here but my biggest two are speeders and tailgating drivers, well I should also add a third - red light running drivers are a puzzle to me. Why would anyone risk losing their life to save a two minute stop at a red light! Beats me.

Yes, they must annoy the heck out of everyone who wants to drive faster than the lawful posted speed limit!

Until I started riding a motorcycle (Only a year ago) most of these things would have annoyed me. I've found particularly on a MC emotion is not a good thing to have. Always have your "A" game and a level head.
Now I'm really good and just thinking all cars, trucks, etc are trying to kill me and it's not personal. Sort of like a video game. I slow down or speed up to get away from the crazies and just enjoy the journey. I think the change of attitude is carrying over to my 4 wheel vehicles as well.

I do know how you feel, and I feel the same way at times, but I always look for the other side of any story, so here it goes. We were blessed to have a special needs daughter who gets along in this world with a lot of help from many professionals. She has had a hard life but she is a survivor. She looks as normal as you and I in every way except she is slower than trying to pour molasses left outside in the winter time. We taught her to write checks out fully including the register so we could track her expenses and guard against people trying to take advantage of her (Oh yea, there are plenty of those people around let me tell you). After one day watching her go through a grocery line I saw that something else was needed instead of checks because of the backlog of people standing in line behind her, and some very nasty comments being muttered. So we gave her a debit card and a way of checking her balance at her home by using a computer tablet. She is happier than a clam at high tide and I'm sure those who used to stand in line behind her are happier also.

So I'm sorry anyone who is behind someone like my daughter. We tell her it's not that she is slow, it's just that the world around her is spinning way to fast.

I still write checks for groceries as that is how I prefer to do it ( so there must be two of us) and those who don't like it I really could care less, they don't manage my money, nor do I theirs. That is all a matter of preference and if that is one of your pet peeves, your tolerance is way too low in my opinion. Too many other things to get your goat in this world.

I have been behind people in line who take twice as long as I do to write a check using their Debit card because it won't scan, or they can't remember one of their many passwords, or they don't have enough money in that account and have to use another card ect. Doesn't bother me just wait until it's my turn, they got there first and waiting your turn is a part of life.

I have no problem with people writing checks . When I did write checks I had it all filled out except the amount , usually before it was even my turn , so that when clerk told me the amount that's all I had left to fill in .

Checks? I write about 2 per year to CGs that don't take cards. My stock of blank checks will outlive us all.
Do some folks think cards are dangerous in grocery stores (et al)?

I just don't use my debit card, I either write a check, pay cash, or use my credit card. The easiest thing(at least if it is an inside job) is for someone to use info from your debit card to compromise it. You would be surprised how many people don't know if something has been charged to their account via fraud and just pay it.

Also if you use your debit card they for some reason charge more than the purchase price to cover the bill, and then the bank makes it correct which could take a day or two. (now that's a pet peeve) Not that I have to worry about the balance it just bugs me they can do that. I know I live in the stone age, my wife tells me all the time, she uses her debit card for everything.

THAT'S how it should be done.

That's the only part of your reply I didn't agree with, makes it sound like people who write checks are stupid, a lot of people still write checks. I agree they should be able write them out in a timely manner.

No, Amazing Kreskin, you do not know why a person is exceeding the posted speed limit.

Last year near us in the Bay Area, when a mother was trying to get her very sick child who had a reaction to something while in the car to an emergency room, someone determined he knew why she was speeding and decided that he was appointed special police powers to restrict speeders. So he hit the brakes as this desperate woman with emergency flashers and flashing headlights (please get over) while talking to 911 was trying to save her child. Surely as he was in midair, he thought about how much more formidable Honda minivans are than Minis. Later, he also found out about the formidability of her lawyer.

My sister met less resistance when one of my nephews suddenly turned blue in the back seat, perhaps because her two other kids were yelling to other motorists what was happening.

Again, you never know why someone needs to go faster than you, and it's the law to drive in the right lane except when passing.
