Hello, All

Here's a news tidbit from my Great State of Washington.
It seems that a middle aged Renaissance Fair enthusiast thinks the skills he's acquired in the Medieval Games he plays are appropriate disciplinary tools for parenting his 16 yr. old stepdaughter.

The Authorities appear to disagree.

What think you all?

Off with his head!
Parenting is not a set of rights, but a sequence of responsibilities. If you think you can make your own rules, you must first learn that you cannot usurp the rules that are in place above you.

Considering that I came up under and used an even lesser version of "the Board of Education applied to the Seat of Learning" that is just wrong. The right to dicipline a child stops long before mental or physical abuse. Since they are Renaissance Fair enthusiasts mabe their punishment should be public flogging with a "cat of nine tails". Probably wrong instrument for those times, but I think you get the idea.

Being neither a court of law or a family member of that family, I think it's not my business. Since the authorities already know about it, they will decide if it's right or not.

My preference would be that all parents are responsible adults and would punish/teach their children in an appropriate manner. Unfortunately for my way of thinking, society believes they should dictate how parents treat their children. IE spanking.

Lonesome Dove:

Woodrow Call: [after beating a man nearly to death for hitting Newt he climbs on his horse and looks at the horrified towns people] I hate rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it.

I live my life the 'Cowboy Way'. Its pretty black & white to me.
Right.....& wrong.

Beating a child black & blue is just plain wrong. I will step in.

Since I only read half the story an unqualified comment is not in order.

However with the aforementioned qualification: Does sound a bit ... Extreme.

Let us know what the authorities decide.

Here's the Knight in his Shining Armor...

So far, both he and his wife, a daycare worker, have been charged with assault.

While I agree that is wrong, there are some parents out there that face some real challenges with unrully children. I try not to sit in judgement, but when you go out in public and see the behavior of some of these children and the lack of control the parents have it makes you wonder what these children will turn out to be. I have heard the term The ME Generation, but when the next generation is grown what will that be?

Does anybody think there's something particularly bizarre about the fact that the "disciplinarian" in this case is not the 16 yr. old girl's natural father?

I can remember being a little turd and having some adult grab onto me and kick my butt or give me a stern talking to. That was part of learning respect for others and their property. Now people are afraid to look sideways at someones little Johnny who is getting into all kinds of stuff. I do not promote beatings of any kind, but sometimes having to face someone you have done wrong to is far better than a "don't do that Johnny" or "1 2 3 oh that's ok you really didn't mean it".

Saying bad boy (or girl) don't get it; go set in a corner; don't get it; giveing a time out don't get it; spare the rod and spoil the child; don't get it.
sometimes a good ass whopping gets it.
This guy just went to far.
Kids have learned that if "any one touches them (parents) all they need to do is call police and parents will be punished.
really, really sad.
I have two kids (now grown up); one in a business doing great; one in the big house doing time; he is the one that would call the police if I touched him;
The other after a few minor corrections, turned out just fine.
