daveshan,
Two weeks ago we were in Colorado for 2-1/2 weeks. Couldn't tell where your hiding but looks a lot like where we were,... Montrose, Durango and points in between.

We spent the summer in Seattle where we escaped the heat that gripped most of the US. For the last 2 weeks, and until the weather turns dismal, we have been parked at a friend's place just 100 feet from the Columbia river. HUGE cargo ships pass by and I am still awed by their size.

From here it's SD to get my driver's license renewed and then south to Conroe, TX to Mom's house. I'm considering joining the crowd in Quartsite, AZ for Jan and Feb. Never been there, but I've read about a lot of fun and sun. Any suggestions for where to boondock in an LTVA?

A cargo ship just went by. By counting the 40' containers (16) I estimate it was almost 800 ft long!

We're home in Anacortes again now. We just had a 6-day trip, visiting the Fall M&G at Silver Cove for three nights (thanks for your last-minute take over, Larry) and met some nice folks.

We headed over to Astoria the fourth day, along the Oregon side of the Columbia. Lunch in Astoria and about 3 hours pedestrian sight-seeing with the dog, then we headed to Fort Stevens for that night.

The following day we drove to Tillamook along 101. A stop for lunch and a walk-around in Cannon Beach, then through Tillamook to a CG about 5 miles from the Air Museum. We visited the Air Museum the next morning - awesome place, well worth a visit just to see the incredible building, let alone all the resotred airplanes.

After the museum visit we gassed up ($250 worth!) and headed over the mountains on Highway 6, round the west side of Portland on 405 then across into WA. We stayed at Columbia Riverfront RV Resort, near Woodland. It's right on the river bank, and we got a front-row slot. We saw three big ships go by, two headed north to go out to the Pacific and one coming in, headed to Longview or Portland. There was also a floatplane doing pilot training in water landings, which the 40-knot wind made quite entertaining.

We came home Thursday, with a total of just over 700 miles. Nice and comfortable and relaxing. It's not clear whether we'll get another trip this season. It will have to be a fairly short one if we do go out.

Just setup in Henderson, NC at Tobacco Farm Campground. Will be there at least until December 22. Nice quite little campground with 5 campsites, 2 cabins, and a bed & breakfast. Also about a mile from Kerr lake.

Thanks for the memory Jack.

I lived in Calgary for 22 years and headed into the mountains at least once a month. Banff, Lake Louise, Kananaskis and Jasper are all beautiful places. Another good hit while in the area is the Columbia Icefield between Banff and Jasper.

Bad news: We have not been out at all this summer. Good news: last weekend spent sitting in my DH's hospital room. He goes home Tuesday. If we're lucky in the weather we'll be able to go out at least once before we have to shut down for the winter.
