Where is the Best Places to retire

I would would like some feed back on where to retire based on Taxes, Friendliness, and Modern Churches and all the other good things. Many people say Florida as long as you have lots of money.

Having been retired since 2002 and living out of Fl, moving to NC, Fl is a lot less expensive. The opinion to live in FL one must have a lot of money simply is false. Pick and choose wisely you will find very reasonable property values, no income or personal property taxes. Your homeowners insurance is determined by location in the state, coastal areas being higher than inland. You will love the weather.

If you play your cards right and keep fuel in the tank you can retire to all 49 states that have roads leading to them. Just a thought.

This is a decision for the two of you. Looking for the perfect place to retire is going to be as much fun as the search for the perfect rig.

I suggest you check on books, websites, advice received here, etc. and begin to keep a list; perhaps the top five states in each of the categories important to you, such as taxes, cost of living, registration & inspection fees for the rig, closeness to the kids, weather, medical. After you narrow down the state, then you can begin again within the boundaries of that state for the perfect town.

The last advice is to travel there, spend some time confirming the info you developed before making any commitment.

I have to agree withe what Clayobx said. Moved to Fl from MN late summer of 2012. Insurance is about the same on house, car and mh as up north. Have money left at the end of the month than I ever did up north.

Having seen the absolutely awful weather east of the Rockies this year, and being unwilling to put up with high humidity and bugs on the eastern seaboard, we chose Anacortes as our retirement community, before we even became RVers.

Summer highs are around 75F, winter daytime highs low to mid 40's, winter overnights rarely drop below 35F. Long summer days at 48 degrees north latitude (sunset after 21:00 for a couple of weeks). Summer humidity is usually in the 30% range.

The only real drawback is that, mid November to early March can have a lot of days with "500 broken, 1000 broken, 2500 overcast, 2 miles visibility, rain and fog", but after being born and raised in the NW UK, this is not unusual for us!

No income tax in WA (yet), sales tax around 8.4% but not on food. House prices not too bad - our 15 year-old 1700 square-foot 3-bed, 2-bath rambler, across the street from a salt-water marina is appraised at about $240K.

If you don't want 95F with 90% humidity, it's worth considering.

This all depend on how much you want to spend or have to live on. I'm in Northern Ohio where you can get a nice 1600sq. home for 80 -120k. The same home in CA would be 400-600k. Maybe 200-250k in CO. and 200k in AK. I have traveled many states, and find what I have now is "cheap" compared to most other parts of the country.

You have to look at:

~Home prices
~Property taxes
~Income taxes
~Cost of Utilities
~State Sales tax
~vehicle registration fees
~vehicle plate tag fees
~insurance costs (home & vehicle/RV)
~will your health care coverage in retirement apply there
~Any HOA fees
~Crime
~Weather (some of us like the change of seasons)

Wherever you can afford it.

Texas is a good start. As stated, no income tax, Homestead your land and pay reduced taxes. Reach 65 and taxes are reduced and frozen at that amount. Friendly people. Good food. As stated, reasonable real estate costs - just check out garygreene.com or zilla or any real estate web site in Texas. RV parks around here are typically less than $500 a month and many include the utilities.

Or, as the saying almost goes, whatever lifts your denim.

Do your research on the money, churches, etc. then take your RV and live there for extended times all year long. You have the best of both worlds.
