I was lucky. Sometimes smart.

I stuffed my 401K.
I am my own broker.
Invested low to medium risk
Left the market before each crash
Got back in on the rise
Retired with no debt
Sold house, bought RV

Everything I was paying by owning a house is paying for our dream life.

It takes unwavering discipline.
A bit of luck helps

Best of luck to you!

Like the old saying goes " I came into this world with nothing and I still have most of it" Truth be known I never thought I would live this long. If you remember the sixties you weren't there. I was there for all it had to offer!!!

Alot of good advice has been given. Just wish I was in a place to take advantage of it. We have modest IRAs and will get almost full SS at 66. Wife is two years older and plans to retire while I work a couple of more years. Trying to payoff small house in Big Bear and payoff the RV. It will be right down to the wire. Plan is summer in Big Bear and winter some where warmer.

Thanks for all the insight, some on, some off topic. But all appreciated. The op was/is basically asking for experiences and personal stories. Not so much an advice or a "what should I do" type deal.
