I had just turned 12, no interest in politics except in the school yard but remember being mildly curious about this young enthusiastic president of a neighbor I didn't know a whole heck of a lot about. November 22 is burned into my brain though.

I was 23 years old, married, with 2 children and just starting my 2nd. year as a fireman, for the City of Tampa. Will celebrate my 54th wedding anniversary this year.

Sweating and soldiering down in the Panama Canal Zone.

Read about it the next day in the Stars and Stripes.

Living in the Canal Zone with my folks (Only 8 at the time). We did spend a good bit of the summers touring Central America in a VW bus "enhanced" to have some camping equipment. My first introduction to RV'ing.

DBol -

I had to laugh (not in a critical way) about the first comment in your post...about being 15 and worried about the religion of the new President.........because

I was 11 years old and being brought up in West Texas in a Presbyterian home...I had NEVER met a Catholic. Didn't know what one was! I was also worried about the President's religion because I had heard somewhere that Catholics had to eat fish on Friday...every Friday.....if a person was Catholic, they had to eat fish...period...that was their religion!

I was afraid that when JFK became President that he would make it a law that every American would have to eat fish every Friday

.....and I hate fish!
