I had forgot how cold it was, but remember standing in formation with USAF Honor Guard parade, behind US Capitol in Washington DC @ 4:00 am. Yes it was the Innaguration for John F.Kennedy, and DC had an overnight snow storm that almost paralized the nations Capitol, but the parade went on. Pennsylvania Avenue still had Trolley tracks, and we were behind the Shriners parade which did have Donkey's, so we were dogging the Donkey s*%#t, and trying not to fall on the trolley tracks. I do remember how heavy dress blues with overcoat were after the heavy snowfall. Memories I will cherish forever, just wanted to share with all.

I had just started my 4-year university course in Mechanical Engineering at the Royal College of Advanced Technology in Salford (a suburb of Manchester) England that led to a degree called a Diploma in Technology. It was a four year degree equivalent to a US Master's degree, but the college subsequently beacme a university and the degree was officially called a B.Sc. (Eng).

The inaugration of Jack Kennedy, though news worthy, wasn't that big a deal to most Brits. US politics weren't a big news item back then.

A few years later, my fiancee and I, along with my father and mother were at the annual ball of the local Rotary Club. Half way throiugh the fesitivities, it was announced that President Kennedy had been assissinated. Most folk in England expected nuclear war with the Soviets was imminent.

That was a scary time.

In Jan 61, I was a dumb country idiot, living in the receiving barracks at USMCRD San Diego, waiting for enough dumb country boys like me , to join up so we could form a platoon. Waited from Nov 60 to Feb 61. Man, were we dumb and young then.

Well I was preparing to celebrate 3 years of marriage with a wonderful lady. I was married in Feb 1958. I had 2 children. More than likely I was shoveling snow off the sidewalk much like I will have to again in a couple of days. The only thing that has not changed is the snow part.
