Where Were You on 9/11
Where were you on 9/11? Briefly tell us where you were and if you watched it happen in ''real time'' on your television like l did.
On 9/11 Linda woke me at about 8:30 am eastern time and told me that she thought I might come and see the news. The first plane had hit the WTC building and there was much confusion. We sat and watched the second plane hit the second building in real time. I watched them burn and I told Linda that these buildings would eventually fall because of the heat on the structural steel holding them together. She doubted my prediction until the first building crumbled as we watched. We sat and watched CNN all day long not moving except to get food and answer the call of nature.
My prayers are for the innocent people that lost their lives and for the brave firemen and policemen that lost their lives. And for the families that lost loved ones.
I have been to the hallowed ground of the WTC and knelt and said a prayer at that sight......
GOD BLESS THIS GREAT NATION AND KEEP IT FREE..........

I had just arrived to work and shortly there after a guy from a bussiness next door came shouting, you have to come see the TV. We all went and watched. At first we thought it was a terrible accident, but soon realized it was an attack against our country. John H...

We were vacationing at the time and were in Case Grande, Az. The phone rang and I answered, the daughter asked if we were watching the news. I said there's a three hour time difference, what's going on as she was in Michigan. Well, it didn't take for me long to turn on the TV only to see the second plane hit the tower. Unbelievable!!! The rest of our vacation didn't mean a whole lot. Just wanted to get home and be with the family.

Just walking out the door for work at about 8:50 when the first news hit the TV. Spent the next few hours watching and feeling like this:
I’m almost afraid to turn the TV on today the anniversary and during other big events for fear of seeing a repeat. God bless all who were involved.

After watching the second plane attack the second tower and watching the first tower collapse on the office TV, I sat at my office window watching a steady stream of planes landing at Dulles Airport (Washington, DC).
I'll not forget the event, the impact it's had on families that have lost loved once then and now, and the way it's changed our lives.

I was at work in West New York, NJ when the 1st plane hit and a cop yelled into my office that a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center. I than went over to Blvd East to see what was happening and saw the 2nd plane hit.
My wife was home and got a call from her brother and he asked her if she could see what was going on. She went out on our rear porch and saw the 2nd plane hit [we live on the Hudson River and have nothing between our home and the River].
My wife watched as things started to fall from the building, later to learn that the things, were people trying to get away from the fire and heat. Nine years later she stills has a hard time accepting what she watched happen and saw that day.
Today as the reading of the names begin, we will be watching and saying prays for all who died on that day, the following days and years later including all the rescue workers who have died from different causes from all dust and toxic flumes.

I was in Kusadasi, Turkey on a cruise. Took an extra day and a half to get a flight through the cruise line in Istanbul. We were on the first flight allowed in the US from that part of the world. The Turkish military escorted us in the airport with machine guns.
They said we'd land in NY, but he airport was closed, so they said we'd land somewhere on the east coast of the US. NY opened in time.
Spent the night in NY and got a cab to the airport. All morning flights to Dulles were cancelled, so we didn't wait for our flight.
We rented a van with another couple our age plus an older lady and drove to the DC area. We could see the smoke from the towers. I dropped everyone off and had to go past the Pentagon to drop off the van at Reagan National Airport.

I was in Manhattan on 42nd St going to a client. Heard all the firestrucks going towards the WTC. The client was near the United Nations so there was fear of another attack there. The city was in a surreal state with a lot of people wandering aimlessly because you could not get off of Manhattan island back to NJ, Queens, etc. I went to a friend's apartment downtown and watched the smoldering ruins from his balcony. Even though I was close by the actual impact site, we had very little information as cell phone coverage was down because the antennas were on the WTC. Finally was able to get back to my car and drive home via the George Washington Bridge (the tunnels were closed down) about 10pm that night.
I was running my town's baseball league at the time and found out that one of my coaches worked at Cantor Fitzgerald and was killed in the attack, Vinny Defazio. Living in NJ, there were many other friends of friends who were also lost.

9/11
I was at my appartment in Boston on business and was trying to use my cell phone. I could not get a signal and used a land line to call out. When I connected with my party and told them I had no signal on my cell for over 3 hrs. is when they told me about the tragedy.
I did not have the TV on or a radio so I had not heard of the tragedy. I come from Boston but live in Florida and could not fly home for a week as Boston was closed.

I was at home with the TV on & as a retired NYC firefighter I immediately knew that this would be the most tragic day in the history of FDNY, as well as the nation. 9/11 is a day that I can never forget & for me, the most emotionally difficult day of the year to get thru. "NEVER FORGET" jodann
