who did you buy your mh from?

Hello and hope your Memorial Day is going great.
I am a long way off from buying my MH and just researching all the options out therex (and I still cannot make up my mind on what class). My question today is did you buy your rv from a dealer or private?
I'm thinking about camping world would be a good place to buy from. Did anyone have any problems buying used mh with them?

I bought mine privately thru kijiji and made a good deal.

Try PPL as they have a great selection.

First motorhome: Bought used from a dealer. We were unknowing of motorhome systems and such, dealer sold us an unsafe to drive unit.

Second motorhome: Bought used from a private party 500 miles away. We were now smarter and the seller was honest.

Then added a used trailer to go onto a permanent site: we were smarter and the dealer was honest

We purchased ours from Lichtsinn Motors. I would highly recommend them.

We have been really happy with their staff and service. They go out of their way to accommodate us.

We bought ours from an elderly man on Craigslist. CW didn't have what we wanted and they charge top dollar for used MHs as did a few other dealers we stopped at.

Rig 1... From a guy at work
Rig 2... Local dealer who had it as a consignment
Rig 3.. PPL. Best of the three options for us.

We have looked at several at dealers, and not once did I feel like I was getting anywhere close to a reasonable price. Not to mention the pressure, double talk and BS that comes out of their mouth. Most of them were " nice guys" but they all were commission salesman. And that says it all.

Ditto on Lichtsinn. Prices on new units are favorable for buyer.

Prices on used vary from unit to unit, but the folks are reputable new or used.

We bought our second mh at cw. They had the best warranty on the market. That put our minds at ease. Cw. Okc.. The staff are friendly, and very accommodating.

I much prefer to buy from the owner/private party as I'm comfortable with my knowledge and prior experience.... I like to look 'em in the eye as we discuss the history of the coach and of course for the final negotiation. If you're new to RV'ing and/or lack experience with inspecting, determining the actual value and overall condition, or uncomfortable dealing in a private party transaction a dealer may be your best option.

A word of caution regarding dealerships; at least 90% of the time the salesman will have no knowledge of the used unit you're interested in and maintenance records, recalls, or any "history" will be undisclosed. At an honest dealership it will be because they don't know the particulars of the coach... and that's the best case scenario.

My best advice would be to take your time, shop hard, and don't "settle" for a MH that really doesn't fit your wants, needs, or budget. Best of luck in your search.

My coach was 5 years old with 27k miles....and "on consignment" on a RV dealer's lot in Hudson Wisconsin...(which is long since out of the RV business).

BTW, I'm thinking you best learn more about Camping World before you spend ANY money there!
