Whoops there goes another tree

As anyone who has a Costco membership knows, they are changing from American Express to Visa this June 20th. I just got my information - not the card, just information - about the change and what to expect....all 17 full sized pages worth! 17 Pages to say starting on June 20 use the Visa Card and not the AM card. Really?

Amex has had a big downturn in acceptability. I don't know why.
I've been fully Visa since 1975 and is accepted everywhere I go.
Get a Visa card and move on.

Costco is the only reason I carry a AMX card. Now will be able to leverage Costco purchases for Southwest Airline points. (-:

Huge account loss for AMX in Costco.

I carry AMEX and I've been doing so since 1986. Seems like more and more businesses have stopped taking it. AM needs to review their business model.

Well, Sam's Club dropped Discover cards for MasterCard last year. It was all seamless; they sent new cards and the accounts were switched over with no drama. Even the payment and billing address stayed the same.

Both Discover and Amex charge higher rates for transactions. That's what's killing them.

AMEX charges the merchant more than MC and Visa. Also not as easy to reconcile for the merchant.
On the other hand, they will fight a bit more for the cardholder.
Try to live up to your dogs opinion of you.

I think the whole point of Bigd9's post was that they wasted 17 pages of paper just to tell you they were changing cards. Multiply that be the millions of Costco Members and you can see what he means...there goes another tree....I could be wrong but I don't think he really cares what card he needs to use.
