Who's never seen the Ocean?

Just wondering how many Irv2 members haven't had that pleasure.

Lot better to be able to sit on the beach looking at it than those 6 months trips I took on it while in the Navy.

I was about 13 or 14 years old before I saw the Ocean. The first time for me was in Rhode Island. I even had to taste the water to make sure that they weren't pulling my leg about the salt water.

Same here, 13 years old and couldn't believe how beautiful - well, until I shook hands(so to speak) with a Portuguese Man O War.

Just this past summer, I stuck a toe in the Pacific and found out they put ice cubes in their ocean. Bob

1968 sitting on the beach at Machinato, Okinawa for 17 months. I remember my first and only typhoon....never thought the sea could get that high. Prior to that I guess you could say Lake Superior.....as close to an ocean you can get inland.

I hear that...I'd always thought that Florida's springs were cold until I swam in Lake Huron off of Mackinac Island. Man, that was COLD! BTW, we are planning a trip to Maine this summer, maybe give those waters the toe test. Bob

The first time I saw the ocean I was very disappointed. I live in Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan. In fact, the first words out of my mouth in Daytona Beach were "it looks just like Lake Michigan." Granted, the waters off of Daytona Beach are MUCH, MUCH warmer than Lake Michigan. Even in the hot summer, we're lucky to get water temps in the 60's (all the warm water pushes east to the Michgian shoreline!). We're camping this weekend at Terry Andrae, a beautiful park on Lake Michigan shoreline. It was in the 30's last night. Brrrrrrrr

That's why we wait until August. Lots of people swim in Acadia NP off Sand beach in July.

well.... sort of... waves have been reported as high as 30 feet on Lake Superior... waves up and over 50 feet are regularly reported on the ocean, with some waves reaching 60...

In the middle of the night we were out about 250 miles off FL and got hammered once, almost went down in an 87 foot sailboat after a serious wave lifted us stern first and drove the bow down under water up to the foremast... I was slammed onto the helm and we lost 2 hatches... over a foot and 1/2 of water still left in the bilge's a few hours later at day break... ugly night...

hope we never find out who's right...

cheers

Haven't seen the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean, just the Pacific from the North-Western tip of Washington down as far south as San Francisco bay.
