What is the purpose of this poll? Seems to me it is confidential information and this is an OPEN forum for all to see.
A safe assumption would be that MOST people on this forum are seniors and therefore on SS and Medicare, no poll should be needed.
Just my two cents.

No offense meant.Just wondering how many of us will be affected by any changes in our income. There are many younger members

So far most of what they are saying is just posturing anyway. Way to early to see what will really happen.

If the funds for SSI are in a 'lock box' (as opposed to completely spent), why would they be affected by this whole posturing thing?

I am on VA disability and did the paperwork for SS (My doc has said no more work) so just about anything that effects SS will also affect people that get VA disability.

The enrollment age for SS and Medicare is also different. With a disability, one can be on Medicare and not on SS (But SSID). The proposed changes involve raising the enrollment age on both (67 then slowly upward), but do not affect anybody presently over 54. Of course, nobody really ever know what a politician will do. I do know how much I would have in the bank had I put 15.3% of my income in investments rather than SS and believe me, I'd rather have the investments. Of course the SS is backed by the full faith and credit of the US Government. What a cruel joke that is.

I am not generally opposed to polls as contributing to them is usually voluntary. I'm not trying to be difficult and I don't have to vote in the poll, but wouldn't we be better served if the poll results were not public? There are other polls in the forum that just count the votes and do not make them public. I could be wrong, but just saying.

Anybody who is relying on SS for retirement is fooling themselves. It was not intended to be the sole means of providing for retirement, although many think that is the case.

Yup. Just wait until one of the options for cutting the deficit involves choosing between the two instead of getting both.

It's being considered....

Meanwhile I've already told my landlord his August rent for the house I live in cannot be guaranteed....
