Why do RVers Congregate near me and run their generators in a Walmart Lot?

Here's the story.

I'm in a Miss. Walmart Parking lot during a heat wave. I don't have a generator so the windows are open. It is hot and humid. I'm just getting some sleep before continuing to drive.

I ask the Walmart people if it is OK to stay and they say it is OK just park away from the store.

I park away from the store near the road out, across several parking spaces.

1 guy parks along side me - thankfully, no generator

1 Class A parks across from me, the aisle width away and runs his generator starting after I fall asleep. It was so hot I was naked (not a pretty sight) while sleeping.

WHY? There was plenty of room in a corner of the lot he could have parked and ran his generator all he wanted!

They both looked and said 'Oh, over there where that guy is must be where RVs are supposed to park in this lot' - and over there they went.

That's exactly what I do when I stop at a Wal-Mart. I think we all tend to flock together and minimize our impact on the parking lot as much as possible. I've seen some stores that have designated RV parking areas. So you don't really have a choice.

Yup, strength in numbers.

If you ever anchor a boat, they all anchors near you because that must be the spot.

So how do we stop this? I was the first person parked.

A sign that says "I shoot generators"???

When I pull into a Walmart lot to park overnight, I usually scout the perimeter of the lot looking for the least unlevel spot where I can park along the curb. Also for consideration is being away from the main flow of traffic in and out of the lot, and finally, bonus points if my door opens up onto some grass and maybe even a tree.

No matter where in the lot I park, the odds seem to be about even that sometime during the night a reefer truck will pull in and park beside me. It's Walmart; I try to just roll over and go back to sleep.

I beat them to the punch. I arrive first, and already have my Onan Quiet Diesel generator running, and both roof air conditioners ON. At about 10 pm we shut the rear ac OFF (with all windows closed, it's quiet enough to sleep). If somebody wants me to move I'm sure they will bang on the door.

Don't stay in a Walmart parking lot! Or go north where it's a lot colder.

You expect everyone to know you don't have a generator, then not run their's when they realize you can't ?

Simple: don't stay at Wal*Marts or move if it bothers you.
