Today we were on the road heading home when we stopped at a grocery store about 300 miles away. We had observed a very young couple in the store and could tell by the way they were shopping that they were down on their luck and were struggling with what to buy. They had a case of bottled water and some of what looked like lunch items in their cart. We ended up in the checkout line behind them. While trying to pay with their bridge card, there was an issue with the computer and the card couldn't be accepted. The young couple were at a loss as to what to do. The store manager told them they'd have to call on monday to get their card fixed/replaced. The couple were stunned that they'd have to go without for 2 more days. At this point my darling reached in her wallet and paid for the items. Both kids started crying and about fell over themselves thanking her. After they left the store, workers asked where we were from and when we told them they couldn't believe what they just saw. When we were loading our purchases in our JEEP, several other shoppers approached and told my wife that it was the kindest thing they had ever witnessed. I believe that I married the right woman.

What a sweet lady. It was a cheap way to spread joy for those kids. They will always remember that. And will hopefuly pay it forward once they are in a better place in their lives. She's a true gem.

A bridge card is a government issued debit card used for food purchases. It replaced food stamps.

Many people need help. That was a great thing to do.

Someone help me with the quote that was popular 8-10 years ago. I goes something like "the world would be a better place if we all practiced random acts of kindness and .... ....beauty".

Your wife's kindness made me think of it, and she is surely has a beautiful heart. Please tell us her first name, and thank her from me, too!

Found it!!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual person or people. The phrase may have been coined by Anne Herbert, who claims to have written "Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty" on a place mat at a Sausalito restaurant in 1982 or 1983
