When I got out of the service, I went to work for a VW dealership and bought an old '57' VW and restored it...ground up. It was my pride and joy and bragged to my co-workers what great gas mileage I was getting. This thing was getting over 40mpg and the engine was a stock 36 hp. and sometimes it would get almost 50 mpg. What a car! This went on for about a month and a half. Then the bottom dropped out. The mileage started dropping below 40mpg...30...20 and within a months time, it was down in the teens. Oh, to be young and naive again. The jerks I was working with were adding gas to my tank and then siphoning it out when I was in the break room for lunch. Man, was I disappointed ... then embarrassed for being that gullible. Bob

When I was in high school I worked in a gas station'
every week we had a guy bring his car to the station; let all the air out of his tires and put in "new" air; he honestly beleaved that as air got used it got harder. He truly believed the car ran smoother and rode softer.

I actually saw this happen once. My friend worked at a tire shop back in the late 70's and the boss's wife would bring her car in and the guys had to put it on a lift , raise it a few inches and line up all the white letters on the 4 tires with Goodyear at the top. They didn't laugh in front of her because she always brought them a 6-pack (remember those days?) and the boss just shook his head and looked the other way.

How about getting handed a distributors condenser that had a hot charge in it. Learned real quickly to see if it was only handled by the wire....OUCH!!!!

Being in the electrical trade I had an apprentice looking for a bucket of ohms. Another we needed a pull rope in a conduit so I had him looking for some shore line.

Yea, when in the Boy Scouts I remember being sent out to look for a smoke screen and another item was a sky hook. DOH!

We had a kid in high school convinced that he should put spring water in his radiator. The logic being that spring water never freezes. We had an awful time talking him out of it after that. I still wonder if he ever tried it.

The principal at our high school announced on 01 April that the local jaycees were sponsoring a submarine race at 5 o'clock at the city lake. Amazing how many students went out there to see the race.

I used to take my girlfriend out to the submarine races all the time ,they were always at night .I'm pretty sure she enjoyed them as much as I did.
