I was thinking about some of the crazy things we would have new soldiers do when I was in the Army. Like sending a guy to the motor pool parts room to get a can of beep to fix a broken horn.

I imagine the same could be done with newbie RV'ers like many of us. It wouldn't be very nice and actually kind of mean spirited, since I bet most of us have outgrown those sort of pranks.

I think my best was sending an Army air traffic controller I was training to get a can of rotor wash. I told him we needed to clean the windows in the control tower and we were out of window cleaner. My crew chief buddy in a hanger was in on it too. This guy, bless his heart, roamed all over the airfield looking for a can of rotor wash for 45 minutes or so. He took the joke in good spirits and we actually became good friends.

I wanted to see what some of the others forum members have experienced along the lines of these practical jokes. Either while they served in the military or just stories they'd heard. I think it will be a pretty entertaining thread to read.

Having just sent our 20 year old "boy" to boot camp Monday, that cracks me up.

From boy scouts. Smoke bender and specify right or left handed. Dehydrated water. Then there was the midnight snipe hunt banging pots and pans to scare them out.

That's funny. I could see a bunch of young boy scouts out in the woods in the dark, clanging pots and pans together. I would never be able to do a practical joke like that because I'd be laughing to hard the whole time.

I've been on many a snipe hunt.
I got initiated; driving heavy equipment, doing electrical work, working at a safe co. ,and most remembered Boy Scouts.
You mean you didn't know to put motor oil in your water tank to lube the pump?

Did you hunt snipe in your skivvies? I sent the kid looking for a left handed crescent wrench. He came back with said crescent wrench and said with a puzzled look "This is the only one..." then the light came on. We left.

I worked for Delta Air Lines. We sent the new guys to get a cup of MEK cleaner. We always gave them a foam cup. MEK would dissolve the cup in about three seconds,

I have heard that mechanics sent newbies for muffler bearings.

Customer's AND new mechanics......any noise in the car was the "muffler bearing" gone bad due to all the heat coming out the exhaust pipe.

Just come back here and feel it.

Also....the "cornell-doobler" was going bad. That is why ANYTHING was wrong with the car. Only a 10 cent part, but the labor was 11.5 hrs.

(USN 1964-1974) On board ship (USS Floyd B. Parks DD884)sending for 25 feet of water line.. Engineering would send for a bucket of steam as the chief needed something to blow off...

One was when I was working for UAL . It involved an overhead directional hoist.When we had a newbie the lead man would run the hoist as the newbie would watch. When the newbie would use the hoist nothing would work , the lead would say what is your problem always works when I use it ,this would go on for a while Newbie did not know that I was working the main control switch at the other end of the shop.
