Winterize with Vodka

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with winterizing the water system with Vodka vs that horrible pink stuff?

I suppose it could work but I'd be careful not to ingest too much by mouth.

I use Tito's vodka on myself, but it seems like that would be a lot more expensive than the pink stuff. Would give you a nice aroma in the coach. That said, I live in Southern California so this is all a curiosity to me.

Actually, however, alcohol is a solvent so I'd think twice about the long term effects on all the plastic bits.

Just keep some oj on hand for when you de-winterize. And de-winterize slowly. I've heard that de-winterizing too quickly can cause headaches!

It is flammable at 40% so that could be a concern.

If your water pump is in the tank, that might be a problem. Esp. don't if you have fiberglass anywhere in the system, as the alcohol is a solvent that will eat away at the glues which hold the fiberglass together, and will cause clogged pump filters.

I am pretty sure that there are some mariners out there using this technique.

There are bold boaters. And there are old boaters. But there are no old, bold boaters.

I winterized with Vodka for almost twenty years with our old coach. Never had a single problem. I always bought the cheapest vodka I could find. No taste, sanitizes, keeps from freezing, and you can party in the Spring.

Coach we have now gravity drains just fine so no more need.

Just bypass the water tank or you'll need a case or two.
