Better is whose eyes? I personally find satisfaction in sending back unsolicited crap. I also contribute to commerce by keeping money flowing - from the bulk mailer to the post office.

True, except the Post Office loses money on bulk mail. It just cost us more money. It has to be made up by the taxpayer in $15 BILLION bailouts.
We send a few packages around Christmas and rarely use the Post Office for anything else. When I mailed a package around Thanksgiving, around noon with a crowd of 6 or 8 waiting for the one of three windows that was open, the employee spend at least 5 minutes BSing with a customer about personal things as we all waited. They need to schedule their lunches around the needs of the customers instead of what is customary. This is the way it is done in private business. Do McDonald's employees go to lunch between noon and 2 PM? They know they are under the gun, but many have not seen the link between customer service and their survival.Their very early retirements have also killed them. They need to retire at the normal retirement age of the private sector.

I'd be careful about criticizing a Postal worker, they have a history of not having a sense of humor!

The post office in Clermont Florida closes for lunch. I never heard of a post office closing for lunch until we moved down here......

Our PO closes for lunch, but I think there is only 1 employee and she has to eat sometime.

This debacle with the USPS has gone on for a number of years and unless it has been done behind the scenes, I don't remember seeing/reading anything asking management to submit their plan to make things more workable. Guess that would be to logical of a thing to do.

Who owns the USPS? That removes all doubt about who owns, and who operates the USPS. Not only is it owned by the U.S.A.; it is one of very few agencies authorized by our Constitution.

We think we own the Defense Department, too- but more civilian contractors "served" in Iraq than members of the U.S. Army.

Yay! Was wondering how long it would take for someone to post, or link too, info that said the USPS does NOT take government money anymore..

I didn't read all the post on this subject. There are so many I could never stay with it that long so forgive me if this is a repeat. I think we all understand that the world has changed and it's been changing very quickly. There are many things we've done for many years that are no longer necessary. It is true of many things in our life including the postal service and military spending. The problem is we only want to cut those things that affect someone else. There is no doubt that we could cut things like Saturday deliver and close post offices in rural areas and make the system much more cost effective. However, you'll probably scream and holler if you live in a rural area where going to a post office on Saturday is what everyone does.

Here is where I'm confused. Some seem to imply that we should do away with the postal system all together. Now granted none of us send as many letters these days, but when you do are really saying you'd rather spend $25 to send it rather than 47 cents? I'm guessing that might just cut down on the number of Christmas card you send out!

Rest easy- this is just the latest in a never ending series of back-door ways for people to express their political and personal biases while at the same time avoiding the supposedly forbidden subject of politics.

The subject doesn't really matter, and the thread will go on until somebody introduces a newer, fresher such topic to which everyone will post exactly the same opinions only instead of this subject/object it will be the retreaded, renamed, New, Improved Version!
