Yes, it *can* happen in sleepy little towns

Tragic news.

Imagine having a quiet breakfast with your family, and in just mere seconds, your whole world gets turned upside down ?

It's really a crazy world we live in....

Well first off the story says it was an "automatic rifle". That's illegal to own unless you have a special background check and $200 tax stamp.
Waiting for more details though

Just finished watching the news conference while surfing.

Thought I heard that the gunman had an AR-15 type assault rifle. Whether or not it has automatic capabilities I have no idea....

How many of the dead and wounded would be ok had there been a few people in the restaurant carrying?

Exactly my thoughts.

10 were shot (including shooter), 3 are dead. The shooter is breathing, but not expected to live.

The 2 that died were military in uniform, NOT law enforcement....which leads me to believe that they were just having a quiet breakfast and were innocent victims....

An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity

The Ak 47 was probably a semi-auto or he would have emptied the mag (30 rounds) in about 3 seconds on full auto and probably missed the building with most of the rounds unless he had a lot of practice. I absolutely agree with sdennislee and wonder how it would have turned out if several in the I Hop had been armed and could have defended themselves. Probably after he loosed the first mag out side, when he walked in the room it would have been a totally different story.

God bless our vets.... Thank them for your freedoms... They earned them for you................

I think if I didn't like the pancakes I would have just said so.
It dosent matter how big the town is if theres a loose nut it will happen anywhere.
In asmuch as having an automatic, judging from the headlines everyday, they seem to be easly obtained by anyone. We had a car full of kids pull up to a bus stop and let fly with automatics just the other day.

Automatics or semiautomatics? Unfortunately, the media seem to call anything that's semiautomatic "automatic" even though it's not. Our local paper had to walk back a scare story on all the "automatic" weapons that had been found in the local schools over a several year period.

Sad part is that they are easily obtained "illegally". Those with permits for them or trying to get a permit have to pay big bucks, provide 50 years of addresses, 1st grade report card, and multiple body fluid samples then you might get your permit the day after the world ends.

If you got $450.00 cash you can go to the bad part of town and order one today!

The automatic thing seems to be the news catcher. We had one here where they said automatic and it ended up being a a S&W 357 mag.
And they get anyone that does not know better calling them automatic and do not understand the difference.

But the story no matter where, is a sad story, and heart goes out to the victims.

I live just west of Filthadelphia,PA and I work in the city.I was listening to the radio this morning on the way to work, and a 15 year old PUNK pulled a gun on a Temple Univ. student at 2am and shot him in the stomach, little did the perp know the student was armed (permit to carry) and shot back hitting him in the leg and chest, both will live. Why is a 15 yo out at 2am,where are the parents. I got my first gun at 13, I never had a thought to go out in the middle of the night and shoot some body, let alone point the gun at some one, forget what the law would do,I would have to deal with my father.I hope I didn't drift off the subject to much,I saw the headline when I logged on to my AOL, I have to read it later.
I have to read the posts on irv2 befor anything else, isn't r/ving the life!!
We were tailgating this past Sat. in Happy Valley.

I have often read or heard news reports of "Automatic Rifle" where I personlly got to see the rifle after the deceased gunman became deceased. (Thank you sharp shooting police man)

It is normally a Semi-Automatic.

Mr. Clueless copywrighter don't know the difference like we folks who have actually taken a gun apart and put it back together do.

That said.. i don't much like guns.. But I have taken 'em apart and put 'em back together. Decent shot too.
