You did it!
Took the MH in for yearly state inspection this week. Due to surgery and long recovery in the spring, and then making some mods to the MH, I let the inspection expire. Took me 2 weeks of calling before they told me to bring it in. I arrived with the genset running and the service manager tells me I have an exhaust leak. I tell him he's only hearing the generator. Finally get to pull it in and the inspector says I have an exhaust leak- didn't check, just took the word of the service manager.
Next, he finds a signal/parking light not working. He checks and says it's wired up wrong. I tell him "That's strange, it worked last year when you inspected it and no one has done any rewiring on the MH." No reply, no inspection sticker. Now I have 12 days to find a place that can accomodate a 35 ft. motorhome and check and fix the exhaust, if it really needs it. The lights aren't a problem, but there are very few places around me that still have a pit to work under vehicles and I don't know of a single place that can lift a motorhome. Always something.

sounds typical for our great inspection system. you have prime example of a station generating work. if you think the inspection is bogus you can contact the state police and they will confirm or deny the inspectors findings

I would.. had the same happen when I lived there: Denied sticker for bogus 'failures'. Another is 'headlights needed adjustment' every single time..

Reminds me of the so called safety inspections when I lived in TX '67-71 (they were a racket). I got free inspections because one station would fail perfectly good parts because they wanted me to buy replacements, I would go to another place to get inspected. When they passed the stuff that the first place failed and failed the stuff the first place passed, I threatened to report them if they didn't pass me free (they were glad to get rid of me). I then would go back to the first place and do the same.

Ask for a written estimate from the original place, then take it elsewhere to get a second opinion, but don't tell the 2nd place what 1st said. If #2 tells you the same or something totally different, call the state.

Took me a while to find the rules . . .
LIS > Administrative Code > 19VAC30-70-60
If I were you, I'd make sure that my lights are working correctly and just go to a different inspection station (with the generator not running).

Go out to Daleville to the Cummins shop. They are able to lift a motor home (they lifted my 45 ft Monaco) I would also think that they could do state inspections.

Thanks for the info. I found another shop In Giles County, closer than Daleville. I will keep them in mind, though.

Giles?
I grew up in Pembroke. Still do business there. The garage that was recommended is Glen Lynn Garage.
