I have been offered to buy a 1954 Banta Box Tent trailer, it looks as if it is a small two wheels wooden box that opens into a large canvas tent trailer via use of tent poles. I have only seen a photo of it set up so I have very little detail, so I am hoping that someone out there has more information on this vintage trailer.

It looks as if there is some sort of bed on the trailer one it is opened and it is surrounded by the tent

I didn't have a Banta, but back in the early 80's our first RV was a 1963 Apache tent trailer. It was exactly as you described. The tent part folded out to the side and you set it up like you would a tent, with the included aluminum piles. The entire top of the trailer part was an enormous bed. The best part was that it had a screen room which zipped onto the tent part which doubled your living space.
My advice is to be sure the canvas is not rotted. Dry rot will weaken canvas and I suspect it would be very expensive to repair.
Our trailer was destroyed in a storm shortly after we sold it. We enjoyed while we had it though, took it out to AZ and Colorado.
