1967 Holiday Rambler truck camper

Have a 1967 Holiday Rambler truck camper that has a slight leak from the black water dump valve (Thetford, plastic). Below that valve is pvc pipe and fittings for the bathroom grey water drainage. To rebuild this valve it looks as tho the pvc would have to be cut out (no visible union). No room to add a coupling later. Maybe a rubber hose and clamps over the fittings on either side of the cut? Anybody done this job?

Pictures would be ideal for optimal instruction.

Hol Ram T/C dump valve rebuild

Right. Here are photos of dump valve arraingement. After closer examination it appears as if I can disconnect the larger screws that hold the valve to the holding tank, then remove the two smaller screws that attach the valve to the lower 3" outlet which includes the grey water drain. Then possibly rotate the valve body from between the two to where I can wrestle it out and rebuild it. Does that look possible? Better than cutting between "A" and "B" to remove whole unit.

It looks like your dump valve assembly likely uses a stock bolt pattern, given that its a Thetford valve, but you'd need to measure and check it against a modern dump valve just to be sure.

What you can do if it is, is, unbolt the existing dump valve and then cut the smaller grey water pipe off at the elbow. Install a new modern valve that is fit for the original tank valve, then add a reducing T that the primary diameter is the size of the main black tank pipe and then has an elbow branching off that is the diameter of the grey water pipe. Connect the grey water pipe to the T.

Add another valve after this T then a male coupler for your hose after that.

I don't know how large your holding tank is, but if its fairly decent sized, you can use that configuration to back feed your grey water into the tank, its exactly how my camper is configured.

OR:

If the valve is stock sized, its a slide in blade type, unbolt the 4 bolts and tug that front coupling piece out toward you a bit and the valve assembly should drop out and you can see if you can match it to a modern dump valve and then simply do a one piece replacement.

Why not cut the B side on the other side of the 90* (B) fitting away from the valve. You then can glue in a coupling when you reinstall the valve.

What the picture does not show is that "B" is actually a Tee with another close nipple on the other side.
After looking at several replacement valves and rebuild kits, this particular Thetford valve is actually sandwiched between the bottom of the tank above and below is the part that allows the gray water in and has the bayonet lugs on it. Held together with screws both into the tank and then from below into the valve itself. I believe if I find the correct replacement or rebuild kit I can remove the screws, pull down on the fittings and pop out the valve. Finding the right valve can be tricky because of all the number systems the suppliers use. I believe i'll get one shipped and then do a side by side comparison before installing it.
Actually, I hoped to be able to leave it all in place and be able to replace the rubber right above the slide with a bent nose pliers from below. But then I noticed a slight leak around the handle when I was rinsing it out, which means I need to break it apart and replace all seals.
That's how it goes when you hold on to the old stuff and never buy new. But there are many fond memories in this old 67 since it has been in the family since new.
Thank you all for the help.

There is a tool that chews the pipe out of the coupling section of fittings.

Plastic Pipe Fitting Reamers

I have not used these my self, but something close, and they work very well.

Those are nice, I'm not seeing the price right off the bat, and they only list PVC and CPVC, not ABS.

Have ordered Thetford seal kit. Will advise as to success when it arrives and I get the time to go back down under (provided there are no more snow storms!)

I'm trying to figure out the year model of mine. Does yours have round or square tail lights?
What does your serial # plate on the left inside door jam say on the second line?

Thanks!

Nice looking Set up and your using the best truck to hall it with (JMO) too. My Parents bought one of that vintage but used a CMC truck of that Vintage. I remember that thing was huge. Had everything including a shower.
Is that a genny on the front? Great Idea
