I was offered a 1981 Jayco Jay Dove pop up camper. The roof is in need of structural repair as it has rotted plywood at the rear and front. I need help and suggestions how to go about this repair.

Well today I got the title, new license plate, and it's officially ours. After dinner, we started the first step of the process--repair the roof. Here are pictures: http://members.pathway.net/harmonica...buildday01.htm

In addition to the roof, we need to reframe the entry door and a cargo door. There is some canvas and screen damage, and we're debating either hand sewing replacement panels, or glueing patches where needed. I'm leaning towards patches, but my wife says that she can sew new canvas in place.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

George

George; Glad to see your getting back into it. Looks like you have a little work to do. A suggestion I have, is maybe sealing the front and rear boards, mostly the front. Then when you reattach the front and rear caulking the seams to keep water out when your towing in the rain. I haven't had to work on either of our roofs, so I cant help there. I am sure someone will jump in soon.
Keep us informed.

Well today, we replaced framing, and the end boards. http://members.pathway.net/harmonica...buildday02.htm

Got my supplies for tomorrow--two rolls of flat butyl, and two rolls of screw cover.

I'm only able to work on it for about 3 hours each morning. Here's today's progress http://members.pathway.net/harmonica...buildday03.htm

Hey Gomer welcome to the site. You snuck in, should have posted in the new member section where you'd get all sorts of welcomes. George, looks good so far. I get tired looking at the pictures, so I know YOU must be tired after doing all that hard work

Today's work was to reframe and hang the compartment door, and mount the seal extrusion around the bottom of the roof.

Today's work finished the roof. I now have it at home to start the interior and canvas work.

Congrats on your new-to-you PU. More work than I would've done, but to each their own. Looks like it's coming along nicely.
