Hi everyone. I joined yesterday and got some good pointers from ransil. I have a Ford 460 with a 4 barrell Holley on my 1987 27' Leprachaun E350 chassis. Only runs with key in start position. I was told it may be the ballast resistor or resistor wire among other things. I have eliminated the most of the other things but I am having trouble finding either the ballast resistor or resistor wire. Any help, guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

The ballast is in start circuit if it cranks while in start then it's ok ! Mine the oil sender (has a switch that cut fuel pump if no oil pressure) it also is oil sending unit to engine (separate switches
There is a switch on right side kick panel that has reset if banged !turns off fuel ! It has 2 relays in fuel pump circuit! Look at ford 460 on google and this forum !
To answer your question it's on starter solenoid blue I think bit when you turn key it's out of circuit! Gets power through oil sending unit switch on unit then relay! They tell you listen to tank with switch on don't do anything unless motor running ! Try other tank by switching tank switch!I have 1985 e350 changed both tanks and fuel pumps !

Solved. The ignition coil has "BATT" side which is direct wired on ballast/resistor line. My '87 has a resistor line which is why I could not find the ballast. Anyway, put a multimeter red wire on the "BATT" terminal on coil and grounded to motor with black multimeter line. With key in "run" position I had 9v. When turned to "start" position I got 12v so the resistor was working. That left the Ignition Control Module as fail point. Square unite on fender drivers side. 3 bolts 2 quick connects. Replaced that, a little starter fluid and voila! Thanks for all the help.
