Just purchased our Vectra, getting prepped for full time in early spring. Just removed burned starter from Onan 70000. Making little repairs, I'm fairly good mechanic, but I can't figure out this awning. Seems rusted or 's omething one side, any advice reg as thing apprdciated.

On my last RV, the "stop" on the legs of the awing were a bit off and allowed the arms to sit just a tad low; that required you to "lift" them (using the fold out handles) and pull out slightly to get it to clear and start to unroll.

Did you unlock the tabs on the ends of the awning roller?

Jane is a 93 Vectra 35RQ. Sometimes the awning will act up a bit.

Hereís what I do. I pull the tab on the ring at the right end of the awning down. That unlocks the mechanism so it will unroll.

I make sure the locks are off, theyíre the tabs in the middle of the awning arms.

I pull the awning away from the coach at the right end. I use the hook on the awning tool to grab the rod coming out of the ring. Sometimes the right side will start to unroll at the right side but the left side wonít budge. If that happens I go to the left side and pull it away from the coach the same way I did the right side. It seems to me there is a point where the left end locks up almost like a cam over kind of thing. When I pull it out Iím only to get about an inch or so but it is enough so that I can go back to the right side and it will pull out.

Most of the time I do this by myself so grabbing the strap I always locate to the middle of the awning when putting it away is difficult. And it is rare that I pull it out with the tool on the right side that I have to go to the strap and pull it the awning all the way out. It has happened but it isnít often.

I hope this helps. Tell us more about your Vectra. Jane has her own thread here in Vintage.

There is a cam lock arm on the right end of the roller; that must be put into the "unroll" position (using the awning rod to reach it). The locks at the halfway point on the legs must be opened, and the knobs that lock the arms must be loosened. Normally, at that point, you can just pull from the strap at the center (using the rod).

However, there are "stops" near the bottom of each lower leg that the upper legs sit on when collapsed completely. Mine were just a tad too low, so the top of the legs slightly "hooked" over the top of the upper arms. Kinda hard to explain. But folding out the handles on each leg (that are used to extend the lower legs) allowed me to "lift" and pull the entire leg/roller assembly off the top. Once it was "unhooked" so to speak, it pulled out normally.

Janes advice was the ticket. Tough, but I did get the awning unrolled. I've oiled it up and I think I'll have better routine for Un rolling.
As another note: anyone know how winter able is a Vectra 1993. With heater on, it seems to also keep basement warmed enough to handle freezing temps. This zvectra has been modified with banks intake and exist system as well. Gets way better gas mileage than I'd expect for a big 454. I'm expecting new starter motor for Onan 7000 tomorrow. It was sticking on start and burn up. I'm also looking into new power converter and solar system. Spring can't come soon enough. Can't wait to get free of all this, years of stuff
Peace and thanks, great forum!
