440-3 oil filter

I have recently acquired an '81 Pace Arrow. It's on a '79 Dodge M500 chassis with a 440-3. I have learned the spark plugs are different than a regular 440. My question is does anyone know of any other differences in these two engines ? Particularly the oil filter ? Getting ready to do my first oil change on it and my local parts guys can't even find a listing for the chassis, much less the engine. Thanks in advance for all answers.

Welcome to iRV2.
If memory serves , and sometimes it does, the oil filter will be the same as the car/light truck 440-1. Any numbers visible on the one that's currently installed. There were long & short filters with the same gasket and thread, I'll see if I can dig up P/N's.
The cylinder heads, valve cover gaskets, plugs, valves , exhaust manifolds & carb, were the main differences.

I started working at Chrysler in 1975, and worked on those engines, I'll keep scratching my head, for anything else.

Don't know why the parts guy couldn't find the listing .
Could be a problem with the year, because the 440-3 in 79 was a hold over from 78 and the 440-1 was no longer available in the passenger vehicles/ light trucks.
I had tried to order a 79, 1/2 ton 4X4, with a 440, and ended up with a 360, 4BBL.
Any how Fram filter P/N's are PH-43 the short filter ( 4" ) and PH-8A the longer ( 6 " ), high volume .
Main reason for the shorter filter was clearance to the fan belts, and rad fan shroud.

Interesting little bit of Chrysler history , involving MH chassis.
Mid 80's Chrysler was sued, because they had , over produced the 78/79 MH chassis , and re-serial numbered the chassis as 80 & 81 when they were sold to the MH manufacturers. So as is apparent in your 81 on a 79 chassis , the chassis was sitting for 2 years before it was built on.

For more on the 440-3 you can visit this site.

We are restoring a 1977 Executive Diplomat II. I have been working on 440s as a hobby for years, so I told the parts counter guy I wanted an oil filter for a 1977 440. Brought it home and did not fit. WTH? So I brought the old filter in and found out it cross references to a 350 Chevy. I thought I was a Mopar gearhead until I bought a real truck. Now I'm more careful and humble.
