'71 Winnebago project : chassis ID

Greetings

I am picking up a '71 Winnebago next week and I would like to positively ID the chassis so I can start restoring the wear parts. I understand these are sitting on Dodge chassis but which one? Would it be a '71 Dodge 3/4 or 1-ton truck frame & suspension or would that be too simple? :-)

Most likely it is a M300 or M400 Dodge chassis.

Thanks for the pointer. I will look into the M300/400 chassis.

So far I do not see a chassis ID anywhere other than a 10,000lb GVW stamping on the Dodge ID plate in front of the engine.

Yep. D24 means 24 foot. Mine is a D18 on a 300 chassis with a 318 engine. D24 should have a 440 in it I believe.

This one does have the 413 and it is 24-feet long.

I read that the vin# will have the chassis coded into it. Waiting to get the vin from the owner. I won't see it again until I pick it up next week.

Look on the wall by the drivers seat. Look in all the cabinets for things like the weight rating sticker. Who knows it might still be there.

Your Brave looks great!

I love the contours of this generation Winnebago more than any other by far. Mine won't see a lot of miles for a year or so while I work on it and also work on the little project house I bought, but will see some adventures in the near future.

Check out this link here. The first two digits in my '71 vin are "H3" which seems to designate the M300 chassis. H4 would be M400.

Have you checked the date codes on your tires? I would never trust tires if they are 7 years old regardless of how good they look. Do you have the 17" rims? Many have converted to 16" rims. The tires are a lot cheaper. You can find them just as tall as the 17's but WAY cheaper.
