92 Sun Voyager 5.9 Allison 542 transmission

I am doing the fluids. Oil is done. Transmission is next . I calls for dexron on original manual, but on Allison it calls for synthetic on wed site. Which do I use? Or which do you use?

Any idea of the transmission filter sizes. None of my Allison books part numbers are any good. looked online but filters for this transmission are not listed Probably going synthetic but need some long life filters. It does have a Baldwin external filter Bt-230. It seems to be a cheap filter in price for a 150.00 Transmission oil change.

Dexron is no longer recommended. Allison wants you to use Transynd.

I called Allison to get pan gasket and filter. I asked about the fluid and he said I would probably use Dextron due to the age and the potential for swelling seals with synthetic so I went with Dextron. Almost through on rehab of the Motorhome. Last fluid left is coolant.
