Aluminum roof maintenance/repair

Hi,

I just purchased a 1989 Winnebago Warrior 22'. I've owned newer trailers for many years, but this is my first coach and it has an bare aluminum roof. The aluminum looks in good shape and I know I need to perform maintenance around all the the openings in the roof and I'd like to maintain the joint between the aluminum roof and the fiberglass crown area between the roof and the exterior walls.

What products would you recommend for this? I see lots of people use Kool Seal and a local RV dealer stocks the Dyco 890. I'm looking to seal the openings, protect and seal the joint and protect the bare aluminum.

Thanks,

Peter

I used Kool seal on the roof of my 88 U haul box's bare aluminum roof.
It greatly reduced the surface temps and another thing I noticced was that the black streaks disapeared 99%.
Its good stuff.

You can do that, but, at Lowes they have a product called 'Peel & Seal' in a 6"x25' roll that is akin to Eternabond with an aluminum top layer (its thicker and stickier). Use it to seal all all the seams and junctions. You can then top coat if you wish.

Shop Peel & Seal 6" x 25' Mastic Roof Coating at Lowes.com

kool seal kool seal kool seal. the peel and seal yes is thicker and stickier but follow the kool seal instructions and not issues. the peel and seal doesnt stand up to the flexing that occurs in travel. it just simply wasnt meant for it. kool seal is the one for the job.

I think Cool seal is a Sherman Williams product as is Snow Roof Systems and the Snow Roof Systems is a grade above. We looked at them all in 2007.You need consistent 50 degree weather for them to cure correctly,no rain, better yet inside.

Check out this ref:

My roof repair

The first few pages I think you will find very informative.
