Sorry Sir,
I don't ignore anything.
9 out of 10 times it's cheap gas or low octane and if it isn't and I can't do it or figure it out I will pay to have someone fix it for me. (Rarely) My Rig Runs top's, and I used the 87 octane, bad choice
I run Mid grade 91 octane or higher 93 octane. It was tuned using those higher octanes Hence the Ping
Happy Holidays,
Tim

SO once again I dive into the engine. I was thinking it may be the carb due to the time the popping started. Well I pulled the carb to exchange it for a new one. I figured while its off I would pull the valve covers to make sure there isn't any valve train damage. Nothing on first look. So I decided to unplug the dist and turn the engine over to watch it all work. POP right from the intake. So its not the carb, its a valve issue. it must be a intake valve not closing all the way, or an exhaust not opening. I played with them a bit and made some progress. I am thinking I will loosen them all and start from scratch. Get them close, then finalize with the engine running. If that doesn't work, off with the intake and do it from complete zero. I am tempted just to go there so I can rule out bad cam. I will make that call Thursday when I will have time to do it.

tinse4,
If you are going to pull the cam, you might want to put in an aftermarket cam with the power range in the 1500 to 4000 rpm range, also a good low end torque manifold to go with it. You will be amazed at the difference in power and it will increase you mileage too.

Yes if I have to replace the cam, I will put in a new Edelbrock intake and matching cam. I like to keep parts the same as possible, so will have matching cam intake and carb. As far as bad springs goes, I looked and couldn't see anything wrong with them. Time will tell as I get further into it.
