Awning roller?

Awning on my new (to me) camper looks pretty good, works pretty good, and all that...

Problem is that when I went to roll it up, I hit the toggle, and it would not roll itself up well. I spun the roll by hand, and it stored well, and is in the barn now.

This is a spring loaded roller, not an electric one...

Is there a way to increase the tension or repair the spring inside the roller? Once I hit the toggle, it seemed to want to roll up, but did not have the tension.

This is why it rolled up as well as it did.

So, is there an easy fix for my awning roller?

Extend awning, release legs, rotate legs to increase tension, and try again, keep adding tension till it rolls up correctly.
