Clipper1, If your thinking of putting an AC unit in the back window, this is how I did it. First I took the glass out with the crank assembly. Then cut 2x4's to screw into the aluminum frame work from the old window. This will make it very solid. On the outside I had some aluminum sheet material I cut to fit around the AC. Then caulk all around and paint. I still need to finish the inside. We will add small curtains to each side to of the AC to give it a finished look after the paneling goes up. Hope this helps.

Here is a couple pictures of our trailer a few days after we brought it home. It's come along way. Hard to belive that there was water damage in the top left corner of the front wall. Well, being this old it's gonna happen I guess.

Our trailer does not have any holding tanks so I needed to come up with something to use for a drain. I didn't want to use a bucket or carry a blue tote. Since I only have sink waste I made this. My trailer drains to the ground with 1-1/2 pipe from the factory. I took a piece of 3" PVC pipe, a 3x2 coupling, a 2x1-1/2 bushing, a small piece of 1-1/2 pipe and a rubber 1-1/2" elbow. Glued everything together and ussed a couple of screws to twist the hose onto. After hooking up I add water to the p-trap and put a 4x4 under the hose for a second trap. Works great. I will add a gray tank this summer. But until then this will do.

Looks like AC units are getting popular. I have been asked in other forums about how I have it mounted. So I better get some updated pictures here too. The unit I bought at Home Depot was around $80.00. It's a Hampton Bay 5050 BTU unit that measures out at 17-1/4" wide and ~11" tall. I've got 6" sticking inside the trailer and 3-3/4" outside the trailer. You can see it rest on the 2x4 I have scewed into the aluminum window frame. Then I took the metal bracket it came with to hold it on the outside of the house and used it for a bracket on top of the AC. I then got some ell brackets and did the sides. Cut the cord down and I'm done. You can grab the AC and shake the trailer if you want to. It does not move at all. Hope to finish the inside this spring. Cools our 16' trailer great.

Howdy,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 5th wheel and am considering using the rigid insulation. How is it working out in your trailer?

Thank you for your time,

Pat

Pat, My brother talked me into using it instead of fiberglass. Glad I did. Much better I think. It stays cooler now and it's more sound proof. My little AC doesn't have any problem keep it cool at all.

I used liquid nail to hold it up on the ceiling and around the curved areas of the trailer. Works great. Would use nothing but the foam from now on.

I read this vintge forum all the time and want to say "thanks" for all the great photos. I wish I could have talked my Mr. Wonderful into restoring an older coach, but he thinks we should work towards restoring ourselves!!!

Ah, yes - better with smileys!
