Riding home from Jerome Arizona, I spotted this beauty and had to stop to question the owner. He said it has been a project of his for the past few years building up to retiring this past summer.

He now lives fulltime in this little beauty.

This little RV has a Corvair frontend, with an aluminum box on the back.

Dennis the owner had installed solar panels on the top for boondocking and the best part, he painted the steel bottom portion of the truck to match the aluminum top section.

Being from an autmotive background, He had sprayed the bottom with good ol' spraypaint saying he didnt want to invest too much money in a paintjob if he was going to live in it fulltime.

Dennis had fabricated this top section out of aluminum so it would follow the same lines of the camper.

One cool feature is the front section pivots up to allow for storage of the propane tanks and other necessary items.

I've never seen one of these, and something tells me I wont see too many more any time soon.

Thought I'd share a few cool shots with you all.

Pat

The only question I have is , was it made from scrach or did it belong to some company that made them?? I have seen the pick-up styled Corvair, but never a slide in or anything like that. Kinda looks like what Toyota did back in the 70's and 80's! i wouldn't want it for out here but back east where it is kinda flat wouldn't be bad at all. Neat Find!!!

He told me that there used to be a company that would take any truck you gave them and make a sleeper cab for the back. They were the original ones who built it on this truck. It was painted some funky turquoise color (He had pictures of what he had found it like)

He recovered it in the aluminum and painted the body to match. I cant remember the name of the company that did the original swap, because I was too busy noticing all the custom things he had made to it.

Glad you liked it.

Pat

Amazing find there Pat. The body is straight as an arrow.

I would imagine he has problems finding repair parts for it though.

What repair parts were you thinking he might not be able to find? The appliances would be standard, the chassis would have standard factory running kit (engine, suspension, brakes, etc), the skin for the coach is aluminum (which he has proven that he can repair/fabricate himself). . . Not a lot left, unless there is something I'm not thinking of?

I was thinking more along the lines of the Corvair. I didnt know 60's era Corvair motors and drivelines were still readily available.
