calculating fuel costs

I'm leaving tomorrow on a trip from New York to Florida. I'm driving a 1982 23 foot GMC Vandura 3500 class C. I'm carrying no liquid other than a few gallon water jugs for coffee and dog drinks and windsheild washer fluid to flush with. I'm taking the western route to avoid cities so about 1200 miles each way. Any idea of how many miles per gallon I should get?

Depends on the condition of your rig, especially the carb. A fresh tune and keeping your speed at 60-62 should get you 8 or more. Bad tune, high speed, maybe 5mpg.

Plan your fuel at $3.359 a gallon, fuel prices are all over the place.

Figure you gas mileage at 6 mpg, and then draw your route on Google Maps. Add 200 miles to the figure it gives you, then double for round trip, divide by 6 mpg, and multiply by $3.359 to get the fuel cost with buffer.
