Center hub caps instead of simulators?

The wheel simulators on my little bus are a mess. Almost all of the fake lug nuts are gone. I have never liked them anyway, the hand holes are two small for my hands to get to the tire valves and valve extensions donít work that well for me on rubber stems. So I was thinking of going to OEM GM center caps. They were original equipment on my one ton truck and the wheels looked pretty good.

What I am not sure of is if the 2000 up hubcaps will fit on my 1995 p30. 8 bolt pattern is the same and hub diameter is the same. The oem wheel width(6Ē vs 6.5) is the only visual difference I can see. Anyone tried this?

I removed mine and just painted the wheels. No center caps but I think it still looks pretty good! Just used gloss white Rust-Oleum spray paint. The wheels were completely black under the simulators so it took quite a bit of elbow grease to get them paint ready.

I can't comment on the center fitting. My 89 p30 has the 5 lug fronts and 10 lug rears instead of the 8 lug. The only issue I can see is that if I remember correctly those attach by threading on the lug nuts which have external threads to hold the cap on.

Thanks for mentioning the lug nuts with external threads for the center cap nuts. I had forgotten about those. Researching last night I discovered the problem with doing what I propose on a P30 is the lug nuts have a 90 degree combined seat angle and all the available external threaded nuts have a 60 degree seat. Trying to find 3500 series DRW wheel clamp rings( which would have 60 degree seats) is next to impossible and machining( re-chamfering) the existing rings is not worth the expense.

I think Iím going to follow your lead and paint the wheels and hubs white. I might use chrome/stainless steel lug nut covers to keep the lug nuts looking good.

You could take the centers from the p30 simulators and paint them. Just scuff them up real good with sand paper. My centers were separate from the actual simulators I just only had 2 centers.

I just came across a used set of Pacific Dually simulator centers with the mounting rings on ebay for $50. I bought them. Iíll paint the rims white and everything should look good!

Awesome! I honestly think when I painted the wheels it made the whole motorhome look better. My simulators were tired and I always thing they look cheap anyway.
