Check Oil ~?

Ok, 1987 Winnebago Chieftain 27RU
Went to check the oil on this rig and encountered this thing instead of a dip stick?
How does this thing work?

OK then there's an add on I've never seen before, guess I learned something today , time to call it a night.
JMHO: that's probably been there since 87 so I wouldn't trust it , find a stock dip stick.

I don't even know what that is.

do you pump the black knob to see the oil come up in the tube?

I would love a detailed analysis.

THanks,

Karl

It should have a standard dip stick, is this a chevy motor? If you haven't already I would climb underneath and look at the oil pan and see if there is a dip stick tube
