Am considering buying a 1986 Honey 26 ft RV on a Chevy 350 chassis from original owner and would appreciate hearing from current or previous owners as to their experiences brand, esp. re: what the weaknesse of this brand are, what to be sure to check for prior to buying, etc. For example, is there some way to check the integrity of the wooden frame, or some symptoms to watch for that suggest damage/rot?. There is no musty odor, no mildew smell, no signs of water damage except in one corner of the front window of the cabover bed. It has under 30K miles and the asking price is $5,000.
Everything is said to work and will ask to have all equipment demo'd. I am new at this and am assuming that most of the components are generic and thus one could bolt in replacements, as there seems to be a fair amount of room around furnace and other things I could access; am I correct about this? Could not locate the water heater. Seems to have a Coleman rooftop AC, shurflow water pump, hydroflame something (water heater?), Onan BGE/BGEL generator, and a new refrigerator (brand starts with a "D"). Propane tank is a permanently mounted one that is rusty.
Would an RV center be willing to check things out for a fee? Seems like it would be worth it if not too expensive. Have a mechanic uncle who worked on trucks and can check out the chassis. Am awaiting books from the library on how to buy an RV. Any other advice, esp. specific to this brand or design, would be appreciated--thanks!
