couch springs and foam

I need to replace the zig zag springs and foam in a 25 year old couch. It is used as a bed as well as a couch. Has anyone ever done this before? Is it a project that a novice can tackle or is it best left to the pros!!

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just replace the couch ??. A lot less work, just a little more expensive.

I have not done a couch but I have done a chair it did not have springs but I used a memory foam 4 inch topper to replace the foam and I found that a fish knife worked really good for cutting the foam

Thanks for the replies! The couch is an odd size so replacing it with another is not an option...I was told by a local re-upholstery shop that the fabric can not be saved in the process . I thought that I could undo some of the seams, replace the foam and re attach the fabric....looks like back to the drawing board!!
