Couple Functionality Questions

My '85 Gulf Stream has a rear heater. Is this similar to a Suburban/Yukon rear heat; a fan, heat exchanger and coolant lines to/from the engine? I haven't gotten under the makeshift double bed the PO constructed over the original twins yet to check it out.

My turn signal stalk has what appears to be a cruise control button on the end, but also has a rotary switch with on/off and some variability. Wondering what this is for since all the original text on the stalk is gone. High beam switch on the floor, L/R wiper and washer switches on dash.

Re the heater, if you don't see a wall mounted thermostat, it's most likely an aux. engine heater. Almost useless in my experience. On a coach this age, I'd actually be concerned about the condition of those long heater hoses leading from the front?

Re the speed control, if memory serves me, you set it by pushing in on the end, adjust the speed up or down by turning the knob, then cancel by touching the brake pedal.

Interesting CC functionality, I'll have to try that out.

I hope they used steel tubing for the bulk of the front to rear coolant plumbing then, I'll have to check that out too.

We had to replace the on/off switch on the rear heater works very well I found but loud that may change with use. Pull knob out for more heat. works great.
I'll have to look at the turn signal lever to what it says on it but it is the cruise. Push the lever in to operate cruise or shut it off or hit the break pedal and push the button on the end to set.

On off and variable sounds like wiper control.

Our jeep has same...

Push button sets cruise

Turn knob is wiper delay then low high so one click.turn.2 clicks.

Next is sliding switch for cruise

I figured the button was to set cruise speed. The stalk has no traditional on/off/resume slider switch.
The on/off variable rotating switch has no effect on the wipers (which have separate L/R switches on the dash).
I'll may be able to take it for a drive tomorrow to see if it has any affect on the cruise (assuming CC works).
Had to rebuild the carb; accelerator pump was temperamental, it wouldn't work when cold. Man I hate rebuilding quadrajets; at some point I may have to swap in a Holley.
PO had the CC cable disconnected. After rebuild, I reinstalled the CC cable and couldn't get the idle to drop down properly without pulling the throttle lever closed. CC cable was a bit tight, just had to adjust the cable clamp, now all is good.

Another functionality question: When I turn on the lights, the turn signal indicators light up. They still blink when the turn signals are on. Is this an indicator of some kind? All four signals flash, although the left front seems to flash a little wonky. Right side - front side and main turn signals flash together, rear flashes during the front off cycle. Left - side and main signals flash out of sequence, on rear's off cycle.
I'm not getting a fast flash to indicate a light out.

Wonky lights - check your side markers to make sure they're working. They're wired a little "differently" so they blink with turn signals. If one is out, they'll leave a dash indicator on that side on telling you that pretty clearly.

"Different" wiring:
The hot side of the side markers is wired as you would imagine, to the rest of the clearance lights. What makes them "different" is the gound side is wired to the turn signal "hot" side. The ground path of the side markers lights run through the turn signal filaments to ground - making that circuit a LITTLE "wonky". The REAL wonky part is what makes them flash when the turn signals are running. The hot/ground to the markers switch! The hot becomes the wires supplying power to the turn signals, and the ground path goes through the other running light filaments. Simple, right? ;^)

Or, just suffice it to say, if my guess is right, you have some side marker lights that aren't working.... -Al

Replace and clean all your turn signals bulbs, sounds like you have one shorted out. Make sure all the connections are good and tight. I would start at the left front, as it sounds like it has a bad connection! Also check for any trailer hook up wireing at the back of the coach, that have been added later. Could be a bad connection back there too! Hope this helps! Rail!

on ours, a 82 PA the front drivers/passenger side marker flashes with turn signals. My right arrow on the dash is always lightly lite. but they all work normally. all lights on toad also work normally. Got me why that one lights up lightly. At least they work!!!!

Thanks for all the info!
Turn signal issue ended up being an LED 1157 replacement installed in the front left turn signal. It is probably a cheapee LED that doesn't provide the resistance the system requires. Replaced that with an 1157 and all is well.
