Curiosity

Good evening all.

I have a question of curiosity, I'm hoping someone can fill me in on.
The owners manual makes no mention of it
Up on the dash in front of the passenger seat there is a small hatch door
which lifts up when opened. Presently there is nothing inside there, but it
does have what I would guess is a ground wire.
The top panel inside has a mirror on it while the bottom tray has what looks like worn styrofoam

It's an 84 Southwind 27'

Thaks have a great nite

Sounds like a vanity mirror but a picture would help a lot
