What have people used for under the doghouse insulation? What I have presently is just the 5/8" plywood and the thin carpet on top. I'm looking to get the most sound deading I can get. Heat has never been a factor.

I used thermo tech. It's sound deadening and heat resistant.

What is a recurved distributer???

A recurved distributer has had the advance weights altered to provide faster timing advance. Or at least different advance for better performance.

I had a lot of engine noise from under the hood also. The first thing I found was that the rubber hold downs were stretched out and not doing much. I ordered new ones and installed them. Seemed better. While I was working on it I leaned on the back of the engine cover with the engine running, and it got much quieter. I installed an additional hold down in the center at the back of the cover. Made a big difference.

My dog house cover has metal snaps that are adjustable. The house is tight and all considered for what it is, the sound is not to bad.

With the 454, the mechanical and vacuum advance maxes out at around 25 degrees at around 2600-3000 rpm from the factory. With recurving, ( mainly different weights, lighter ) My total advance tops out at around 42-45 degrees. The engine is more efficient, runs cooler and better fuel economy and it has a better giddy up and go. You need to find someone in your area that has a distributor machine to properly do this. The distributor has to be pulled out of the motor to be done on the machine. Look up posts by Jim Elliott, He has since passed away but he was a wealth of information.
