Thanks Sanjay! I didn't get home till awhile and I have my computer back again! Deb can have that HP with the vista on it!!
Fleamarketer, If you will click the link at the bottom of this post it will get you to the photo host site and if once you are there, click on any of the albums and the pictures all show up for that album. Although This site has several supporters and sponsors, I would like to say that IF, you find yourself in the Tucson Area that the best place for new and old parts for these homes can be found at Road Runner Rv. { Sorry, Had to plug} They are doing a first class job on our home. They are a FMCA Member and I know they are a Dometic dealer and handles lots of the other parts for new and older vintage vehicles out there. No job too big or small!!
We are supposed to go there again Thursday afternoon to see where we are going to put the vents and a/c and lights in the roof. After that it will be a week or two till we get our home back. We are waiting for that day as we can get out of this coach and into ours! Its bigger and better than this one for sure!! I'm sure that Eddie will be glad to get us out of his hair!!! Anyway, Thats about it! Looking foward to Thursday, Till then..Have a great one!!

Hi, Just a update to let you know that the coach is coming along nice. We went thru and made marks where we wanted the lights and vents and a/c and the type of vent covers and stuff like that.
They are running wire and putting in foam insulation and as soon as they can get all the holes cut out and openings made They will finish the insulation and then 1/2" plywood and then the rubber EDPN roof! The way they are talking, We could have it back buy next weekend or the following week after!!
I did get a couple of extra pictures but I will post them to the rood rebuild 5 and we will get more next week! Thats it for now, They seem to be able to do anything. Really good work they turn out! Tell you the truth, I think they could do anything there for any rv out there.

While our vintage RV's are manufactured by different companies, they are all constructed generally the same depending on the "era". We even share some of the same products (like our GE elctrical boxes)! So, for us in the Vintage Forum, it is important to let others know what we have found while deconstructing/reconstructing our RV's. It's bound to help someone else down the road. Just understand that it really doesn't matter if the RV in question is a Winnebago, Coachman or an "orphan", chances are one of us has run into the same problem and worked out a better fix. And if you're the "first one", then we can learn from you!

Thanks Lorna and Fleamarketer, It is coming along fine and really looks great!! Yep!, Lorna is right ! We may have different models and brands but the construction is pretty much the same and all the appliances are pretty much the same. When Coachmen sees this one when we go there next year, They are gonna drop jaws in a heartbeat!! I have to have the camera to make sure to get there expressions when they come in! They say a picture is worth a thousand words! That one should be a winner!!!!
All of us learn from our mistakes and we all hope that none of you have to learn the hard way! Good luck with your rebuilds and we can always say we saw ya in the IRV2.com site!! You all have a good 3 day weekend and a safe one!!!

Capt Dan:
As I go and scrape the ceiling in my MH,you got me wondering is the ONLY right way to do this is by removing the roof as you did. With mine it has (what I found so far) one 1"x 2" roof bow tube in the back welded to the same which goes front to back and one 1"x 4" tube as a roof bow about in the center. The 1/4" plywood is sandwished between a bent flat pc of metal and riveted to that and then the bottom of that plate is screwed to the walls. That plate runs the whole lenght of the MH on both sides.I don't have the means of posting any pictues so I an trying to decribe what I am seeing the best way I can.The long and the short of it,is it seems the best job anyone could do is to remove the roof.I don't have the funds to do that kind job at a Dealer nor do I have the ablilty to do the big of a job myself.Seems that the plywood running accross the MH by the 8' going accross is a part of the structural strenght of the roof and walls.I am afraid of cutting the rivets off because if a wall moves,I have no way of getting back in place.I have PM'ed Lorna to see what she has to say about this.Want to do the best job I can with what I have to work with. For sure the cabinets, frig vent,vent,A/C where put in after the ceiling was put in.That means I got to remove all that before I can finsh the ceiling.Sure am glad I went after the ceiling before resealing the roof.Well I'm ranting. You get a chance let me know what you think.

if the basic roof is sound, You may not have to redo the roof! If it is basic metal and not already coated, I would do like Lorna said, Go with snow white and don't forget the sunglasses! Tape all the seams and vents for the bath and fridge and any other items like tv antenna and tape it as well. When that is dry then coat over all the tape and roll the rest of the roof. Thats the way I would go for now and then take care of the ceiling inside and work on damage repair and finish. If I had done that 10 years ago, I wouldn't have the problems I have had!
I will be on and off this next week as My computer started acting up again, Actually it never has been really right when I got it back this last week, and I am huffing, puffing and blowing it to He!!. So that means getting another laptop and the best one is like the one I am using right now so I will be getting that maybe next week or so! One other option is a acer that is very similar to this HP. So we will see what happens next week or so. I was finally able to download a printer program for the Vista so I can continue to use the printer. Its in great shape and has the flatboard scanner and After getting the software it worked perfect. Now if I can get the old games to go on,It will Not be to bad overall,I guess! Well check in later, I'm kinda shot as we went on a trek to Mt. Lemmon and back the back way. We have the pictures on line at the link below they should be in order. We went up on the front road that is about 27 miles of switch-backs. The road back is the back road if you can call it a road. It is a cow path and it was washed out in a few places and that was a little fun for the truck but no problems and we are back home for the night! I don't know about my Aunt right now but she has been in the hospital and NO one told me!! Mighty white of them!! I'm NOT to happy with My cousins!! I will see her tomorrow. She is supposed to be home from the hospital. They think she had a stroke and that has slowed her down a bunch but doing better so they will let her come home. I took the day off and the world came down on us so. Later, Capt.Dan

Nothing new on our Motor Home as the Holoday was here so I have to go down Friday. I will check in then.
On another note, I got a idea from a friend today and I want you to think about it too and give me feedback on if it is a good idea. I was planning on doing new counter tops with Formica. We had found a green we liked but a friend today shot this one off the wall and I am wondering the good side or bad side?? His idea was taking cabinet grade plywood to make the top and stain it with green stain and then about three coats of polyurethane!! My question is, Will it hold up to water from the sink and or stove and also the counter top on the top of fridge and also that new cabinet across from the sink and stove. I am also wondering about the counter in the bath also. I can put more coats of poly if needed That one in the bathroom?? I wonder about the water.. I have seen this done in homes but that was on those rebuilds on the HGTV or?? They used chop-block..Oak???
I'm not to sure about that but I will see what you all think. Capt.Dan

Hi Dan,
Your the kind of guy who if you could would be right in there working right along side of the guys working on your repair at the RV repair shop. But you have said your not in that kind of shape. So it is easy to understand why you would want to build your own counter tops. But in the same time, have you asked the RV place that Dusty is at already what they would charge you for that kind of work and how much longer it would take?.All and all it might work out better for you.I don't doubt for one min that you could do it.I just thought it might be easier for you.BTW,I do intend to met you at a campground some day before they bury either one of us in these units.Gary

Well, I can do the cabinets myself. I had them go a couple of things that I just don't want to do or didn't know how to do or too difficult to do on my own. The money spent and time saved was worth it but the rest,I can do myself. I have used Formica before and I only need to get a router to trim the Formica. The wood would look different, But I Like working with wood as I like some of the patterns that can show up with the grain. We had looked at a wood grain style with green stain for the Formica, Was just thinking that we could just do it with the wood.
Its a idea anyway but I wouldn't do it till I checked-in with you to get any feedback. I was planning to also get home depot or lowes and see what they would say as well. I got to go as Tweet just called and is waiting to be picked up! She has been doing shopping and laundry as well. By for now,Capt.Dan
I wanted to tell you about Brake Buddy. I bought ours back in 2003. It was for the red Suzuki but it was in the car when my daughter totaled out the Suzuki. The hit was hard enough to damage the Brake buddy. I sat on it for almost two years and had pretty much forgot it till we took the coach to Road Runner for the work to be done. It was leaking air from the compressor and wouldn't work at all so I sent it to the company for repairs and they fixed it and sent it back ,No charge and they payed the shipping!! It will be used next week when we go down to get Dusty Back! I just wanted you all to know how good Brake Buddy really is for support!

The plywood with 2 coats of poly (like Minwax) should be fine. As far as the laminates go... Personally I like Wilsonart brand over Formica. It's easier to work with. Don't get any of the "Hunter Green" Formica or Wilsonart. It is a soft material and will scratch easily (patterns tend to be harder finishes than the solids). We used a cabinet grade plywood for our decking and laminated it with Wilsonart #4746-60 Woolamai Brush (Blue). If you go with a laminate, spray it down with food grade silicone (after install is complete including cauliking in sinks/splash etc). That will make it easier to clean and less prone to stains.

Actually, if you look in the "Who are we" thread, you may note that Lorna is quite well versed in cabinetry. I would take her advice over anyones regarding this field.
