Electric Problems

My next problem. All was working well with my duplex outlets, then one day when I plugged the RV in to shore power I heard a loud pop. The breaker that is labeled GENERAL CIRCUIT kicked out and when I try and turn it back on, it immediately pops right off. If I have the generator running and I reset the breaker, the generator boggs down and pops the breaker. The only thing that i have lost is the 110v plug outlets that are around the RV. The 110v power to the kitchen is still working, including the duplex outlet by the kitchen. It appears that they are on a different breaker. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a dead short. Using a VOM and the ohms/resistance setting check to see if there is continuity between the two legs (check at the outlet) with everything off, including the circuit breaker.

DOes this mean I can check at any of the 110v outlets? I get a continuity reading and then I just need to find the plug where the wires are touching?
Thanks.

You'll just have to find which one is out or if something is plugged into it, like the refr maybe.

Don't keep resetting the breaker. Find and repair the short. Shorts like that can weld the breaker closed and burn your RV to the ground if you continue to reset them.

I do not believe there is anything plugged in to the circuit. The kitchen items are all working fine, including the refrigerator. My guess now is that there must be a bad wire connection at one of the outlets. All the the lights are working just fine, it is just the circuit that has the 110v outlets on it.

You have one circuit that is shorted, what a check at any of the outlets on that circuit will tell you is that somewhere, could be any of the outlets, or elsewhere else in the circuit there is a short. Using the VOM will merely confirm that. You can once you have found all of the outlets on that Circuit pull each one and check the wires, perhaps disconnect them one by one and check that you do or do not still have a short (all power off).

I spent the day unhooking plugs and tracing the wires that I could so far. I have got it down to two wires that still have shorts, I have not located the cause of the short yet.

There wouldn't happen to be anyone out there that would have a copy of the wiring digram for this RV?

Found the sticky entry, thanks. I also called the nice guy at Fleetwood 800-322-8216, and he sent me the couch wiring diagram. I like these fleetwood guys.

Isolated the short to the outlet over the front seating area. Disconnected the feed wires to that outlet and everything is good again. Thanks for all the help.
